Project Update: Structuring Life to Support Creativity Launching Next Month
I'm about 30 days out from my hoped-for launch date for Structuring Life to Support Creativity. That simultaneously feels like plenty of time, but also like I will never get everything lined up to go.
If this is the first you've heard about this project. Welcome! I'm publishing a resource book to help creative people make more space in their lives for the creative work they want to be doing. The book is drawn from thirty years of experience and a decade of giving presentations at conventions and events. I'm excited to get it all collected into a book format.
Here are some updates about the project
Interior text:
I handed a draft of the book to an editor who will tell me how close what I have written is to being ready. I fully expect additional rounds of revision and editing even during and after the funding period. Those different editing passes are how a draft is turned into a polished book. If this editor comes back telling me about large scale issues, then I may have to push back the launch date. Right now it feels like that won't be necessary. fingers crossed.
Cover:
I've contracted a cover designer and she'll be getting me drafts of the cover next week. One of the purposes of this fundraiser is to help pay for the cover design, but I know that the project will fund much better if there is a gorgeous cover to show off, so I'm investing in the cover in advance. This is simply one of the costs of being your own publisher.
Cost quotes on book printing:
I pinged an offset book printer to get a quote. The lowest-cost plan for this book is to go with Print on Demand suppliers, BUT if there are enough backers I can work with an offset printer to create a fancier, higher quality book. Getting this quote will help me do the math on how many backers I need in order to upgrade the book to offset, and how many more I'll need to make the book hardback. I have careful math to do about production on this book and in order to set stretch goals.
Cost quotes on bonus items:
I have ideas for "book box" pledge levels which would include pretty swag and other items. I need to source good things to go into that box and calculate costs so I can price it appropriately.
Finalizing back end set up:
I have some additional set up steps to take here on Backerkit so that the project can be cleared to launch. Fortunately these steps are very familiar to me, so getting this part done just requires me to find a day when I can focus on it.Â
There are so many moving parts in a crowdfunded project. Most of them are my job, but the one you can help me with is clicking the follow button. Backerkit's calculator says I'll need around 300 followers to help this project launch successfully. So click that follow button, and if you have a friend who you think would be interested, have them click follow too!
Thank you so much for backing a prior project of mine. I hope you'll join me for this one as well!

Project Update: Great news!
By tomorrow the printer should have all the files as we did the last checkups. I can tell you that Even added quite a few pieces, some of them full pages, and there are also some chapter fillers and entire battle scenes that now conclude storylines. This is indeed TEGN as it was supposed to be :) I will keep you updated about any news!
Other than that, we have a new upcoming campaign on Kickstarter, you might want to check out :)Â
Cheerio!

Project Update: Only 24 Hours Left to Get a Copy of Coco's Poetry Book!
There are still 24 hours left to order a copy of this book and it's the only way to get one! There won't be another printing like this, so if you would like a copy don't hesitate to get one before tomorrow at 12pm EST.
The next steps are for me to continue production on these extra special handmade clothbound poetry books and the stickers, send out some backer surveys for various reasons, and send out more updates. I hope you enjoy some pictures of the draft preview clothbound copy I made at home.
I appreciate your contributions to this campaign and to those who reached out over the last few weeks regarding my grandfather's memorial, and extra special thank you. Your kindness, support, and empathy has helped me in some dark moments during April.
I am here, this campaign is funded, and I will be able to print these poetry books and stickers because of the funds you are giving. So thank you again. I was unsure if we would make it for a moment, but we did. The next step is the creation phase, and that is the best part. You have made that phase possible.
Much more to come, and much love to you all,
Coco
Project Update: S is for Surveys--The Awful Alphabet Project Update
Thank you, again, for making this campaign such a huge success. By now, your credit card should have been charged, and you should be awaiting your survey (more on that below). Most of the payments went through, but if your was one of the few that didn't, there's still time to update your information.
I've started the process of sending the surveys. I sent the "smoke test" this morning, which means 5 percent of you will have already received your survey by the time you read this. The purpose of the smoke test is to test the surveys before they go out to the majority of backers, so that any issues can be identified and resolved before the rest of them go out. The 5 percent is chosen by Backerkit, so I don't know who they (you?) are, but if if you've already received the survey, fill it out, and, if you see any issues, please let me know.
The rest of you will receive your surveys on Monday (assuming there are no major issues with the smoke test). It is important for you to fill out the survey, to confirm your order and shipping, and to add on any items you wish.
In the meantime, we are entering final edits on the book. Mike and Sara are working through the scan to make sure the colors are perfect, and, once they're done, I'll be doing my final proofread of the book. After that, it's off to the printer, and then to you.
Thank you, again, for supporting out campaign. We can't wait to get The Awful Alphabet into your hands.
Sicnerely,
Ari (for Sara and Mike)
