Apologies for the delay in updates, I've been recovering from a gnarly bout of unexpected illness.
That said, neither time nor tide can hold back the signal.
🛠️ What are we up to?
Failure Island is ramping up for production of of the individual VOIDSTREAMS this month. It is exciting working with the team to identify the optimal gear required, the diverse approaches possible, and the narratives we wanna pursue--
📹 Audio + Video
We're dividing the promised 16 videos into narrative sections. Most of those narratives will come in ~3 parts with audio logs to supplement. As we know, the goal is to create audio/video artifacts that will be useful at your sci-fi horror table, where you can scatter as many or as few as you need to tantalize/terrify your crew. This means creating found footage that's specific enough to be interesting and useful, but also vague and general enough to be broadly applicable. Of course, all of them will be varying degrees of unsettling.
Without spoiling too many of the surprises, here are the main project categories:
🧑🏭 MARCUS IN THE VENTS: A humble teamster tech discovers more than they expected on a routine maintenance crawl in a claustrophobic setting. Is that a body?! Is somebody sabotaging the oxygen scrubbers? Is Marcus alright!?
🤖 ANDROID AUTOPSY: This harrowing POV account serves as a chilling reminder how critical it is to ensure any synthetic humanoid is decommissioned *prior* to conducting an autopsy.
🪖 FIELD TRIP: We recognize this one. A field team is inserted into a hostile alien environment to check on the welfare of a company asset gone silent. A birthday party is involved?
💼 PRODUCT RECALL: A series of in-universe commercials - first detailing the latest tech innovation from Blastex-Wilson®... and subsequent sub-par instructional videos and public safety warnings.
📡 FAREWELL TRANSMISSIONS: Unlike the other offerings, this set will be a series of unrelated distress calls from independent contractors, military personnel, and ambushed androids- fabulous fodder for ominous omens and intergalactic adventure hooks.
We're also getting into gear with Clawhammer Games, Elliot "More Blueberries" Davis, Gnome Anne, and several other horrifying personages as we pull together the plans for the stretch goal scripts/audio/performances. Excited to share what we cook up once the cookin's done.
🎹 Music from the Void
BE/HOLDhas cranked out half of the tracks for the Voidstream soundtrack and they *slap*. We're thrilled. Tickled pink; we can't wait to show you. We've settled on the designs for the rad-ass cassette tape, and Jack is working on a funky little game add-on printed on the back of the J-card. Speaking of Jack-
📓 SOS- Source of Signal
The adventure is in manuscript and we're moving into the layout phase for the accompanying Mothership module. We're evaluating printers and sizes as we strategize how incorporate all of the items into the nifty lil' deluxe box.
Thanks for your patience as we spin up the gears of this grisly machine. We're certain it'll be worth the wait. We aim to be sending the booklets to print at mid-March, and wrapping up on post-production for the audio by the end of March. We'll follow up with some fun production stills and a more solid idea of shipping timelines in the weeks ahead.
