Project Update: The Warm Machine Hardcover Backers: I need your input!
Hey folks...
Paperbacks are absolutely unaffected by this, they came out perfect.
So I just got the hardcover proof in and ugh, look how off the spine is.
I have checked and checked and rechecked and this is not due to any design/formatting issue I can resolve. This is just this printer's natural degree of allowable "variance". It is possible that in my bulk order this will not be the case, but I can't know for sure.
However, when I ordered through KDP a while back, the cover wrap was spot on:
The problem with using KDP (Printer #2) is the interior print quality is not the greatest. You can really see it on the supplemental illustrations I put in the book and the bonus story.
I know what matters is the interior and not so much the cover, but I don't want this book to be ugly on your bookshelf! Since these books are going to YOU folks, I'm hoping you can help me decide what to do about the hardcovers here. I haven't placed the bulk order yet for them, so based on how you folks decide here is what I'll end up doing.
Do I:
Option 1: Cross my fingers and hope that the spines align more closely in the bulk order, opting for the better interior printing of the two?
Option 2: Go with the lesser quality interior printing knowing that the cover will be aligned fine?
Poll is open here. Please vote (or let me know in the comments if you have any other ideas).
