BackerKit FAQ

How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.

To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.

All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.

Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.

Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.

When will I be charged for my pledge?

Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.

What happens after the campaign is over?

The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.

The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.

Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.

Project FAQ

Why won't you ship outside the US?

Shipping inside the US is costly enough. There's only two of us here, and we're disabled/chronically ill. Managing VAT and other import/export issues is too much for us at this stage -- plus, you don't want to pay $30 just for shipping a single book, right? If you're outside the US, we would more than welcome you to pick up an ebook!

I want to order a Doodle. How do?

Thank you for your interest in a Doodle! All of the art seen in this campaign was done by N. She primarily has a semi-realistic anime/manhwa/webtoon style. More examples of N's art can be seen at http://metacosmchronicles.com/metacosm-art! What you can ask for: Humanoid characters (yours, Metacosm's, or existing franchises), real people, animals, symbolic and geometric designs (N designs all the characters, outfits, weapons, for Metacosm, plus the symbols for the covers) What you can't ask for: NO NSFW OR HATEFUL CONTENT Robots/mechs/hard surfaces/architecture (N says: "I'm not good at these, so trust me, you don't want me to try.") What you will get: An inked, black-and-white doodle on the title page of a single paperback. (if you ordered two books and want doodles on both, order another Doodle as an add-on!) The art will be small and simple: a shoulders-up headshot, or equivalent, of a single character. You can of course request specific actions (as long as they abide by the rules lined out here) or styles (like chibi). The final image will be a surprise when you open your book! The process: After the campaign has been completed, we will contact you via the email you provided during your order and most likely give you a Google Docs questionnaire to fill out. Once that is complete, N will draw a small and simple picture on the title page of the book and ink it so it doesn't fade/smudge. Once it is finished, you will be notified of shipping. The timeline: Up to 6 months. We will send out an email update for Backers of the campaign when N is preparing to fulfill the Doodles.

What is a Dedication?

Simple! Your name will be listed under the "Dedications" section at the beginning of both the paperback and the ebook of The Fractured Balance, next to people like N's mom and best friend and N and A's kids. The ultimate way to immortalize your contribution to this story! Be sure to give us what name you'd like to be listed as! (Please no offensive or NSFW usernames)

Custom cameo???

Yep! Pheonix meets a lot of different people throughout The Fractured Balance, and some pop in only for a second to introduce themselves to Justice. Nothing says one of those people can't be someone you choose! Who you can request to be included in The Fractured Balance: One of your own original characters, yourself, or a character from an existing franchise. Who you cannot request to be included: Any real person who isn't you. (For legal reasons) However, due to IP and copyright issues, the character will be Metacosm-ified (with your help at every step) and their name changed. Metacosm is a place of infinite possibilities and we're professionals, we can definitely come up with something you'll love. What will the character do in the story? Any number of things! You can have them briefly interact with a Metacosm character you like, be involved in one of the story's Big Moments, or even be cut down by Pheonix's blades! An example: A moustachioed hominin named Magnus, who enjoys mushrooms, because he grew up on a fungi-dominated planet, who wears blue coveralls because he's a working-class individual. The different mushrooms on his planet give him varying abilties due to their chemical compositions and Weave content. His favorite mushroom is a red one that allows him to jump high. He bumps into Pheonix in the market on Terelath at a mushroom stall. The process: After the campaign ends and the payment is processed successfully, N will contact you via the email address you provided to gather information about your character. Based on information given, N and A will formulate several possible scenarios your character could be involved in. Once the scenario is agreed upon by both parties, N will write it and return it back for approval. Once final approval is given, the book will go off to the printer! The timeline: We will send out the initial email within 48 hours of the campaign ending, so it primarily depends on how fast you respond and how fast N and A can conceptualize and write the scene. It will be a minor inclusion into the story, though, so with prompt responses, it should take no longer than 6mo.
