Project Update: SEG History final part: Monsters and Lairs and the Hag Initiate
Hello and welcome new backers. We are funded and rewards are guaranteed! Hurrah!
We thank you for backing this project and hope you take advantage of adding on some of our previous books at a discount. Checkout updates for more details on our catalogue of titles or you can simply search the internet to find our old crowdfunding pages.
In this update, I finish the brief history of Status Effect Games with Monsters and Lairs and bring us up to speed on Monster One-Shots.
Our fifth book, Monsters and Lairs, is SEG's attempt at a Monster compendium. The goal of this book was not only to create new monsters for tabletop gaming, but also to take a fresh look at some classic monstrous tropes. I also wanted to provide more than just stats and lore. To that end, I created 20 lair maps giving these monsters a place to dwell and ideas of how to play out encounters with the hungry fiends. Dylan Macko provided all the monster illustrations and did an amazing job as always.
A year thinking of monster encounters brings us up to Monster One-Shots: Hag Initiate. This project will be the first in a series of simple one-shot encounters I hope to release over the next year. It is the goal of each of the Monster One-Shots to introduce a new monster to the campaign as well as construct a complete encounter.
How did I settle on the hag initiate? I enjoy the traditional witch monster, but find hags in 5e to be too challenging to introduce in a low level campaign. The hag initiate showcases a witch in their infancy and makes a more balanced encounter for new characters. Plus, their lore is the perfect start to a horror story.
I hope everyone enjoys the story I've crafted. Remember, this adventure is already written. Rewards ship as soon as the campaign ends.
If anyone has any questions about this adventure or any of our other pdfs, do not hesitate to send me a message.
Cheers,
Chris Zapalo
