Project Update: Countdowns, snippets and questions, oh, my! Question #11!

I know a lot of you are probably getting tired of the emails and the updates and the updates and the emails...

Today's update:
  • a thank you note
  • for those still on the fence
  • a snippet from I CHOOSE THE BEAR
  • one of our last trivia questions

Thank you for hanging in here with me. I'll try to be as entertaining as I can. I'd stand on my head if that would do any good, but...well, I'd fall and...this is online so it's not like you'd be able to see. Even with cameras and all...1) I'm notoriously camera-shy 2) I'm wearing a skirt.

We've got just a little over $500 to go before we could look at adding printed end-papers to our projects and less than $100 before I commission AngelliniX for another round of chibi stickers!

Just a reminder, for those who are still on the fence about backing:

For orders over $150, Backerkit offers payment plans.

If anybody is interested in backing something under that but finances are issue, you can reach out to me directly and I can try to work something out. email is shilohwalker (at) gmail.com but the initial payment must come through Backerkit.

Backing now means you get:
  • All the extras & upgrades including the illustrations, the stickers, the stretch goals associated with your tier (some goals are only for the physical tier, etc)
  • Flash reward offered at the time - this week, if you back, you get an extra ebook, PACK QUEEN, by my partner in crime, Zelda Knight
  • Free Foil Bookmark
  • Dustjackets designed by Blue Raven Book Covers for the Hardback
  • All Eight (minimum) illustrations and two will be NSFW
  • The eBook and author notes free with each physical tier

This special edition version will not be sold in stores, only via the BK campaign and directly from me at events. And you get to read it early with delivery expected in March.

You can check out the pledge tiers available here and feel free to comment (account required) if you have questions or you can email me.

I thought I'd post a small snippet before the trivia challenge today!

I CHOOSE THE BEAR
“I don’t know what all happened—” Liar “—but it’s obvious he tried to hurt you. You’re entitled to feel however you feel. Whether it’s mad, scared, depressed, all three, or something altogether.”
“And if I feel like ripping his eyes out and smashing them under my boot?” She tossed it out there almost like a challenge.
The bear growled in appreciation. I grinned at her and glanced at the simple pink slip-ons she wore. “Well, that’s also entirely valid, but you might need boots…and you probably shouldn’t talk about it so bluntly on a public street. But don’t worry, I’m a vault. I won’t tell anybody.” Waiting a beat, I asked, “Want some help?”
A startled laugh gurgled out of her. “You sound as crazy as I feel.”
“Yeah, well, I don’t have nice thoughts about assholes who try to hurt women.” Rising, I offered her a hand, keeping the box tucked under one arm. “I don’t really think that’s crazy. Just common decency.”
A smile full of warmth and sunshine lit her face. “You make it sound pretty rational.”
“It is.” Nodding at the box, I asked, “You want me to put this in your car?”
“No, you don’t have to do that.” She went to take it but when her hands brushed the box, she hissed out a breath, the pained sound grating on my senses.
I caught her wrist in mine, gently. “You’re hurt.”
She froze.
“Easy,” I murmured. “I just want to see what’s wrong.”
“It’s nothing,” she mumbled, but I’d already turned her hand upright and her palm lay exposed.
There, scoring the delicate inside were a series of deep gouges. My bear raised his head in curiosity—and something else. Wariness. Those looked an awful lot like…
No, I thought.
That’s not possible.
Even as I thought it, I took a deep, careful breath.
Human. She smells human.
There was no denying certain things and my sense of smell was acute. If she was anything but human, I’d know.
Hmmm... any insight? Thoughts? Guesses?

Onto the next trivia question!
