BackerKit FAQ

How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.

To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.

All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.

Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.

Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.

When will I be charged for my pledge?

Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.

What happens after the campaign is over?

The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.

The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.

Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.

Project FAQ

CROSS-COLLAB: What is a cross-collab? And why Fatebound?

A cross-collab occurs when two projects get together to do something special. When you back both projects in a cross-collab you get something extra. Both Fatebound and Confluence: The Living Archive have some weird interdimensional, timey-wimey vibes. And more, Fatebound is a tarot-based game, and tarot is Publishing Goblin’s specialty. Looking at Eerie Games’ project, it just made sense.

CROSS-COLLAB: What do I get if I back both Fatebound and Confluence The Living Archive?

You will get a multi-session adventure, The Fates of Those Who Dream, which combines our systems! Pledge to both Confluence and Fatebound campaigns to receive cross-collab incentives, link to Fatebound campaign: https://www.backerkit.com/c/projects/eerie-games/fatebound?ref=confluence-faq

VTT: What is Alchemy RPG?

Alchemy is a Virtual Tabletop (VTT) with a slightly different focus. Whereas most others provide a map and grid as your starting point, they focus on cinematic elements, like music and environmental backgrounds, motion overlays, and more. They still have the map and grid, but they don’t think that’s the only thing players want to look at for hours during a session. Each game housed inside Alchemy has a Content Universe that merges the games content and mechanics with the tools already a part of Alchemy.

DIGITAL TOOLS: What are the Pixel Table digital tools?

Pixel Table creates custom digital tools for each of their clients. In this first release we are hoping to build out tools including an infinite canvas with integrated character sheets, group sheets, and integrated wiki that will have all mechanical and setting-based material ready to pull into your game at any time, and Focus Card Database built by the players themselves. This would contain all the Focuses we’ve made for the game and allow you to upload your own and take Focuses others have made for their own game.

DIGITAL TOOLS: What digital tools exist for this game?

Discord We have built some digital tools into our discord community. We have tables you can play at, help from the designers and other Story Leads, and templates for you to use, like an infinite canvas template for your game to use in Miro. Focus Card Database A Focus Card is a story-element important to your game. These are your important NPCs, items necessary for your campaign, the main events, and weird mechanics that you want to bring to your table. In an in person game they are written on notecards for easy reference. As Focuses are collected we are building a full database for you to work from. The Focus Card Database currently lives in the Confluence RPG Discord. You can use the focuses there for your games or add new ones to the database for other groups to use in their games. If funded, the database will be integrated into the Pixel Table application.

SETTING: What is the Motley Coast?

The Motley Coast is a region on the continent of Wemrel in Ajurea. There are six continents, each with several regions. Motley Coast was where the first people Pulled to Ajurea ended up. Its history has 25,000 years behind it, and it is one of our most diverse regions. It has three sub regions: The Coast, Inland, and the Swirling Sea. The Coast contains many small towns, part of the train system, as well as one of the largest cities in Ajurea Motley Coast City, the pirate city of Delrun, and Chrona, a corporate city built in a time bubble. Inland contains several more cities like Crop Circle Junction where all crops from the region are centralized and dispersed and Rgnb, a town built on the science of conservation. It is also home to the Thousand Shrines, a long winding trail of shrines to various Fallen Gods and The Soaring Veil Falls. The Swirling Sea is filled with islands and are broken into even smaller island regions like the Gravity Isles and Rockwater Isles, as well as underwater cities such as the Color Dome.

GAME: What does a “genre-bending” fantasy game mean?

Confluence: The Living Archive is a deeply place-based game and the world it’s in, Ajurea, is incredibly wide. Just in this first region we have island adventures, pirates, farm-life, rural rebellion, city-living, and so much more. The game mechanizes the idea of themes. You choose themes at the start and as you play you call on those themes in your roleplay and rolling dice. This allows you to mix and match themes like high-octane, scientific-inquiry, and slow-living into one game. Themes change as what you want from the game changes.

GAME: Is there magic or technology in the game?

YES! Both and lots of it. In Motley Coast you’ll find a lot of technology related to seafaring, living underwater, farm machinery, trains, tech suits, and conservation. Tensormancy (gravity magic), Divinity, Smoke, and Chroma (color magic) all influence the region of Motley Coast.

GAME: What is a Conflux and what does it mean to be Pulled?

Ajurea is a world that is always changing because the 9th Era has a glitch. It keeps taking things from other Eras, other worlds, and even other universes and bringing them to Ajurea. This means at any moment new magic, technologies, people, buildings, weaponry, plants, animals, or even ideas for a recipe might show up in Ajurea. When something is brought in, it is “Pulled” and the actual event is called a Conflux. “A Conflux Pulled in a giant wooly elephant right next to my house yesterday!” Conflux tables make it easier for you to bring them into your game!

GAME: Is there a Quickstart for me to see a snapshot of the rules?

Oh it’s on its way! Our hope is to put out a small series of Quickstart adventures. The first one is slated to be shared before the end of the campaign.

GAME: What kind of system/rule-set is Confluence The Living Archive?

Confluence uses an original d6-based system that gives equal weight to narrative and mechanics. Players customize their characters with unique facets, focuses, and traits.

GAME: Is this a narrative-centric game or is it more battle-oriented?

Confluence centers narrative. However, the game is built for you to run the game you want at your table. This means you can still play a high stakes game or one that requires more combat

GAME: Can I see any of the game materials now?

We are currently running a playtest! Beta 1.5 ends in early January. If you’d like to see the current rules, join the Discord: https://discord.gg/UapkpRrs9n If you’d like to join the playtest register: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeu3xOAqa3_4La6O3fF5F5htI9ukbGUEHsaD64EG2fjjH7_pQ/viewform?usp=sharing We will be incorporating both Beta and Beta 1.5 feedback before the game is published.

GAME: Do I need the Character Journal to play the game?

The physical Character Journal is supplementary. Printable character sheets and journal pages are provided with the game.

GAME: How many players should be at the table?

We expect 2–5 players and 1 game master, known as the Story Leader, at the table. Can it be played solo? Although you can play around with the Atlas on your own, we do not have any mechanics for solo play.

GAME: How do lineages impact the game?

Lineages have no inherent mechanics. By choosing a lineage, you are not required to play narratively or mechanically with any of their physical features. If you choose a lineage and really want to lean into your physical features mechanically you can write attributes and specialties that relate to your physical form. If you’d rather it have more narrative impact, you can reference it during roleplay or scenes that don’t require mechanics. What kinds of characters can I play? Ajurea is extremely diverse. We have 20 lineages included with Motley Coast material. They range from more familiar lineages like Alfira (mouse-like people) and Goblins (who live with moss on their skin) to lineages only found in Ajurea, such as Mujrn (fishlike people with unique mortal-faced tongues)
