How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.
To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.
All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.
Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.
Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.
When will I be charged for my pledge?
Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.
What happens after the campaign is over?
The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.
Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.
Project FAQ
How much will shipping cost me? Where are you shipping? What about duties & taxes?
Domestic Backers ≈ $15.00-$20.00 International Backers (CA, EU, AU/NZ, AZN, SA, etc.) ≈ $25.00-30.00 Shipping cost for your pledge will be collected in the post-campaign survey (the same survey that you’ll provide your shipping details). Each of our BackerKit Pledges include estimates for shipping cost based on where you live. These shipping costs are based on our projections of sales amount as well as an average of ranges for shipping costs we've attained, thus these shipping costs are subject to change depending on our final results. Our goal is to make this process as transparent and accurate as possible, without any false promises or unexpected changes. After your purchase, we will be sending you an email with instructions on how we'll collect your shipping address and payment. The reason for the range when it comes to estimating the shipping costs is to adequately factor in the weight of the package and where it is being shipped to. In addition, the reason we are not charging shipping cost WITHIN the BackerKit Campaign is because of huge changes that have affected shipping way back from the global pandemic and volatility of countries with political quarrels. That means there is a VERY VERY high likelihood that shipping costs, shipping rates and shipping services could change anywhere from $5-$10 per order depending on where it is being shipped and how much it weighs… With some regions around the world completely shutting down altogether and shipping carriers simply stating, "We're not shipping there anymore because of x, y and z.”. What’s worse is that there is REALLY no forewarning from anyone until the very day they notify us. We know, it sucks. However, international backers should rest assured knowing the high probability that shipping costs won’t rise above $30.00... so it's not like ANYONE should fear the shipping cost will be similar to shipping out a 4lb. 40k mAh power-bank or something like that where shipping rates gets outrageous and jump to $40-$70 to ship it out and then VAT & Import Taxes are thrown on top of that. DOMESTIC: If you're in the USA, we'll be shipping your package using a ground service (USPS, UPS or FedEx depending on destination and shipment size). INTERNATIONAL: Non-USA orders will ship through a sister company of UPS called Mail Innovations or DHL. This means that your shipments: 1. Won't require taxes or duties in HK, Singapore and Australia (other countries may have applicable duties/taxes, please check with your customs office for specific details. Customer is responsible for all applicable taxes or duties.) 2. Will arrive quickly and not get held up in customs. 3. Will have tracking, but may be limited in features (depending on the particular post service, of which there are too many used to name). NOTE: We cannot alter the value of your rewards on customs declarations - the value will be declared as the total value of the items contained in the shipment. NOTE for International Backers: The additional estimated shipping cost of $25.00-$30.00 to your order does NOT include Import Taxes. Please be aware of this additional charge.
