Return to the gothic fantasy that defined a genre with Legacy of Kain: The Book of Nosgoth, the official encyclopedia and archive that describes Legacy of Kain’s epic lore and thirty-year history. Then, forge your own path through the plains of Nosgoth in Legacy of Kain: Scourge of the Sarafan, a brutal and bloody tabletop role-playing game set prior to the events of Blood Omen.
Written by veteran games journalist Nic Reuben (Rock Paper Shotgun), Legacy of Kain: The Book of Nosgoth is a gothic ode to the series’ rich history. This dark tome will not only chart the detailed lore and worldbuilding of the series, but also archive game development through concept art, sketches, landscapes, maps and behind-the-scenes interviews.
The Book of Nosgoth’s first section details both the timeline and story of Kain and Raziel’s fierce and complex relationship, while also mapping out the larger world of Nosgoth with its varied locations, factions, inhabitants and creatures. The book’s latter archival section explores the development of all five games, with supporting interviews from some of the visionary artists behind them, including Michael Bell and Simon Templeman.
Lose yourself in Legacy of Kain: Scourge of the Sarafan, a gothic tabletop role-playing game set in the grim and murky world of Nosgoth — a land of frozen lakes, bitter mountains and deep, sunless forests. Embody the warrior-priests of the Sarafan Brotherhood, an order of vampire hunters who fight tirelessly in a great crusade to keep the human population of Nosgoth safe from the growing vampire scourge.
Legacy of Kain: Scourge of the Sarafan utilises the best-selling MÖRK BORG ruleset. Released in 2019, MÖRK BORG has won fans around the world with its doom-laden, stripped-down approach to dark fantasy tabletop gaming, with a focus on minimalist mechanics, high lethality, and player freedom. Scourge of the Sarafan brings this atmosphere-heavy, rules-light style to Nosgoth, with modified mechanics to match the lore and setting of Legacy of Kain.
Learn to play and immerse yourself in an earlier era of Nosgoth with the Scourge of the Sarafan rulebook, which comes complete with six playable character classes, Sarafan weapons and spells, and a bevy of nocturnal horrors to battle. With a simple d20 dice system, both players and the Game Master alike can stay present in their shared adventure without having the action and atmosphere broken by complex mechanics, while high lethality keeps combat risky, forcing players to pick their battles carefully.
The campaign structure is hunt-centric, tasking the Sarafan warriors with tracking and culling the ever-growing vampire population. As they grow in strength, the players will also grow in wisdom, uncovering more of Nosgoth’s history. The game supports narratives that expand beyond the hunt, encompassing time travel, life after death, and incursions from the spectral realm.
