A couple years ago I released "Aquamarine Titanium Dice" and it's been quite popular. So I've been experimenting a bit with the anodizing and overall machining process to see if a deeper blue could be achieved. After some experimentation, I have reached what I call a sapphire blue.
These are CNC machined from grade 5 titanium billet standard 16mm (5/8") D6 dice. After machining they are hand sanded, anodized, and stone washed for a nice finish. Careful machining and process control is implemented to get the nice shiny blue in the pips.
These pips resemble a sapphire blue both in color and in shine. The rest of the titanium dice is hand sanded and then stone washed for a nice weathered satin finish.
The corners are machined with a toolpath that cuts in increments half the width of a human hair for a nearly blended smooth look. This is more time consuming and thus expensive to machine, but I think has the nicest look.
2023 - Unveil Aquamarine Titanium Dice 2024 - Experiment with anodizing, improving the process, etc. Dial in the sapphire finish. Build project. 2025 Jan - Make a small initial batch, order material, get a head start on production. Launch project. I've actually made 20 sets to start with. February - Keep producing dice. Finish fulfillment.
