The Deck of Blessings is a piece of story telling that is so satisfying! The module has pages that can be copied and cut out to make a Deck. We are also offering printed decks that you can get as an add on, or cheaper, as part of a pledge level.
The Deck of Blessings accomplishes two important roles in this adventure: First, the blessings are part of the Divine setting. The PCs are fighting through a besieged Basilica whose god is desperately behind them - regardless of their devotion. The fight is grueling and there is no time to rest. The Deck of Blessings is a wildly inventive and random set of one-time and continuing powers and buffs. The blessings represent the divine support that the party will absolutely need in order to prevail.
But there is a dark deck too, The Deck of Corruption. As time passes, and the demons advance, their corruption seeps in. Corrupted Blessings get shuffled into the Deck of Blessings one by one. This is the ticking clock. The more time passes, the more corrupted the Deck of Blessings becomes. What starts as pure helpfulness becomes a roulette wheel. This is our timing mechanism. It serves to keep the time pressure real! As the story progresses, the discussions of what to do next take on a fantastic urgency.
I can't wait for more Judges and GMs to try this out. I think that you will love how this mechanism motivates your players and brings the awesome metal setting into sharp-edged focus.
