BackerKit FAQ

How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.

To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.

All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.

Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.

Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.

When will I be charged for my pledge?

Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.

What happens after the campaign is over?

The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.

The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.

Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.

Project FAQ

What is the email contact for further questions?

Please email [email protected]. If you have any retailer or wholesale related questions, please contact: [email protected].

How do I know I am receiving the signed Finding Mirrorman Early Backer Incentive?

As long as you pledge for *any tier before 11:59pm Eastern Standard Time on Friday August 02, 2024 then you will receive it! It will appear in your cart once you have access to the post campaign pledge manager, which is sent to backers about 1 month after the campaign ends. *No Reward and Digital Only tiers will have the option to receive the early backer reward in the Pledge Manager, that way if they decide to switch tiers then they will not loose tier reward. As with all physical items, shipping will then be added to their pledge in the Pledge Manager.

If I change my pledge will I lose my early backer incentive?

Not as long as you change to another physical pledge! The time you make your initial pledge is always time stamped with your pledge, so even if you upgrade your pledge tier we will always be able to associate you with the first 2-day backer group.

How will PDFs be delivered?

All PDFs will be available as a digital download via BackerKit. Backers will be notified via email when the PDFs included with their pledge are available for download.

Will I be able to change my pledge after the campaign has ended?

Yes! You will have the ability to change your pledge via the Pledge Manager, which will open after the campaign ends.

Do I need Ultraviolet Grasslands to play Our Golden Age and the Mother Machine?

No, they are two parts of the Vastlands setting.

Is glod misspelled?

No. It’s a tribute.

Do I need the Vastlands Guidebook to play Our Golden Age and the Mother Machine?

No. While the Guidebook presents a loose and creative old school system for use with Our Golden Age, Ultraviolet Grasslands, and other strange, mind-bending worlds at the end of time, it is not required. You can easily adapt the setting and adventures to most old school or d20 based game systems, such as Old School Essentials.

Do I really need the gold box?

Good question. Don’t you?

Are you reissuing the Ultraviolet Grasslands eyeburner dice?

We have no plans right now, but who knows … maybe with a stretch goal?

Is the Grand Map of the Circle Sea compatible with the Grand Long Map of the Ultraviolet Grasslands?

If you mean whether it covers the same places, yes. But it’s not designed to fit seamlessly together. The Grand Map of the Circle Sea is square. The Grand Long Map is, well, long.

Does the Vastlands Guidebook use the system known as S.E.A.C.A.T. from the first edition of the Ultraviolet Grasslands?

No, it uses SDM - synthetic dream machine - an offshoot. SDM is available for free in web page and pdf form (and I don’t have the link on me right now, hang on)

I just want to get a free Vastlands Guidebook pdf.

It’ll be up soon here and on exaltedfuneral.com and on drivethrurpg and on itch.io and the stratometaship patreon. It’s just undergoing some final polishing and Luka has to attach the cover. Throw nice emojis at him to make him work faster.

Are all the books ready for print?

No. The Vastlands Guidebook is ready, but Luka is still trimming, tucking, and illustrating Our Golden Age and the Mother Machine. He was allowed 250 pages for the book and he’s over that limit. It’s his own fault.

What could go wrong with this project?

Well, it’s the work of one writer and illustrator, so if he’s hit by a very small bus that puts him in hospital with a minor injury, or if he has to suddenly spend more time taking care of his baby or his dog or his wife, you know, that’s delays right there. Ropes and players and all that!

Is that Deep Thought from Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy?

No. That’s the Temple of the Personalized Noösphere. A place where the immortal humans of long ago could go to live forever in digispiritual immaculate perfection.

Do I need the cards?

Does a person need anything? No, but maybe you want them?

Ok, what do the cards do?

They present characters, places, and items for the Nemesis Ministry story arc in Our Golden Age and the Mother Machine. They also work as a random generator for NPCs, item and technomagical powers. Finally, it is not confirmed that they also work as a bonus card game you can play when your PCs are too tired to roleplay.

I saw somewhere that Finding Mirrorman has an alternate reverse side. Can I see it?

Not yet because Luka still has to draw it.

Is there a playlist?

There are four. Polis - for the starting area and peaceful downtime: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzVEWmi_27U&list=PL1CCI2wbN8ijbFkzWLuHXrWrpl_8DFzNh Road - for the travel sections. I want to play Our Golden Age and the Mother Machine with Troika, the Other World’s Fantasy RPG [or insert other rpg system]. Is that possible?

That should be pretty easy. There’s a Troika adaptation of the Ultraviolet Grasslands already. Go for it.

I want to adapt it for System of My Choice!

Go wild, just make sure to share alike, give credit and reference your sources. We like to see folks having fun, hacking and sharing our games. The Vastlands Guidebook has a third party license based on Mörk Borg’s with more details.

Does that mean I can reuse art and text?

Nope, not directly. Think fair use. You can quote parts of the text or use an illustration by providing its source and context. As for reselling the art and text? That’s a no.

Is Our Golden Age and the Mother Machine a sequel or a prequel?

Yes. … Ok, roll d6: (1) it’s happening Long Long Ago (2) it’s happening Long Ago (3-4) it’s happening at the sameish time as the Ultraviolet Grasslands. (5) it’s happening in the Nearmorrow (6) it’s happening in the Longmorrow … That’s a table from the start of the book. The goal is to leave the setting open by design, so each table creates and experiences its own flavor of the Vastlands. It also hopefully removes some burden from the GM’s shoulders on “making everything fit together flawlessly”.

Are you saying it’s an anticanon expansion.

Probably that’s one way to put it, yes.

Some of these questions don’t sound like they’re asked frequently.

Ah! Well, on a long enough time scale, all questions are asked infinite times …

Will you apologize for the bad puns?

Never.
