How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.
To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.
All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.
Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.
Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.
When will I be charged for my pledge?
Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.
What happens after the campaign is over?
The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.
Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.
Project FAQ
What are the dates of the streams?
The date for each stream has not been set yet. We won't be able to firm up the dates until the BackerKit campaign is over, we get our Moonbeam realm spun up, and we check the calendars for each member of the panel. To give you a rough time frame: we're currently targeting September to initiate our realm.
What if I'm busy or unavailable to watch one of the live streams?
Each roundtable discussion will be available on demand after the stream so if you can't make the date of the live event, you'll be able to watch the video when it's convenient for you.
Why use Moonbeam instead of [insert some other streaming platform here]?
The main component of this campaign is to fund the GM roundtables. But the other component to this campaign is an effort to foster a community hub where fans of our games can come together and share their own tips, advice, triumphs, and challenges. Where most streamers point their fans to two places -- their streaming platform (when they're live) and their discord server (when they're not) -- Moonbeam offers the capability of hosting both. So our hope is that our realm on Moonbeam becomes a place where fans of all of our various games can come together as well as an outlet for us to do things like these GM roundtables.
What is Moonbeam+?
Running a live streaming platform comes with high costs, and Moonbeam believes in transparency. To ensure sustainability while providing significant benefits to you, they've developed Moonbeam+. Moonbeam+ is an optional monthly subscription with platform-wide perks, including: - Ad-Free Viewing: Enjoy an uninterrupted, ad-free experience across Moonbeam. - Increased Ad Revenue for Creators: Moonbeam pays creators ad revenue they would have earned when you skip an ad, plus a bonus. With Moonbeam+ you don’t have to watch ads, and creators earn more! - Increased Earnings for Creators: Creators receive a 5% payout bonus on any moonstones they earn. Yes, this means creators can earn 105%! - Early Features: Get early access to experimental features. - Additional Benefits: Enjoy a host of other exclusive perks. The number of months of Moonbeam+ you receive varies by reward tier. More importantly, those months don’t start to count down until Moonbeam enters our full launch phase—which means you’ll have these perks for the entire alpha and beta phases before the additional months kick in!
What are Moonstones?
Moonbeam simplifies earning with moonstones, virtual goods anyone can buy on our platform. For every Moonstone a fan gives a creator, the creator earn $0.01. For instance, if a fan gives a creator 100 moonstones, the creator earns $1. This ensures that creators keep 100% of what they’re given with no hidden fees or gimmicks. So, how does Moonbeam make money? Moonbeam makes money by selling packs of moonstones at various prices, incentivizing bulk purchases for greater value. For example, you can buy 750 moonstones for $9.99 or 4,250 moonstones for $49.99. You can use moonstones for subscriptions, donations, tips, merchandise sales, and more. This means creators always receive 100% of their earnings, making Moonbeam one of the only platforms where creators can sell their merchandise without paying any fees or cuts to the platform.
How much confidence do you have in being a pilot project?
Our confidence is high that this initiative will be successful. We have a close relationship with the Moonbeam team and we are not the only TTRPG company collaborating with them (Monte Cook Games and Gen Con being two other notable partners.) If, due to some unforeseen circumstance, we can't deliver via Moonbeam, we have plenty of experience hosting and producing streams and we will find an alternate way to make sure you get your rewards. We don't expect the need to rely on other platforms but it's reasonable to have backup plans just in case and we're not concerned. This endeavor is not particularly sophisticated.
Are you ever going to release these videos to [insert other platform here]?
We may eventually edit down each roundtable discussion and post excerpts to [insert other platform here]. But we will guarantee a MINIMUM of 120 days of exclusivity (from the date of each stream) for all backers of this campaign. Backers get first access, they get an exclusive viewing window, and backers who pledge for two upper tiers get the sole opportunity to participate in the post-show "fireside chats."
