BackerKit FAQ
How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.
To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.
All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.
Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.
Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.
When will I be charged for my pledge?
Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.
What happens after the campaign is over?
The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.
Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.
Project FAQ
What size is the book?
Despair Dilemma is being made at an A5 size, and will be roughly 6x9" on your shelf including the hardcover.
Who will I recieve the crossover bonus from?
If you backed IT THAT LURKS as well as Despair Dilemma, you'll get two designs - one from Despair Dilemma and one from IT THAT LURKS. You'll receive your copy from us with Despair Dilemma and your copy from IT THAT LURKS from them.
How do I get my name added to the book?
All tiers offer to put your name in the book as a special reward exclusive to backers. Once you get access to your pledge manager, you'll be asked how you want to be referred to in the book - this is how you'll appear - however, Double Summon Games has the right to not include any offensive or illegal options.
Was Generative AI used in Despair Dilemma?
Despair Dilemma, and all of our other projects, are 100% AI free. We believe strongly in supporting artists and that quality work can only come from people making creative and interesting choices. BackerKit itself has a strong Anti-AI policy, so you can feel secure that all other projects joining Pocketopia are also AI free.
Who Did the Art for Despair Dilemma?
While it's possible with further stretch goals we may get more art done by new artists, we have two main artists who have contributed to Despair Dilemma. The cover art for the game is done by Cassandra Rose, and the art for Usashi has been done by MasuPasu. Both of them are fantastic artists, and you should absolutely check out their work and support them!
How do I Qualify for the Crossover Benefits with IT LURKS INSIDE?
All you need to do is back both Despair Dilemma and IT LURKS INSIDE at a physical tier before the end of Pocketopia 2025! You'll receive a question in your pledge manager asking what design you want, and you'll receive it alongside one of your physical rewards.
What are your refund policies?
If for whatever reason, you are unable to receive your book or something goes wrong in shipping, we'll do our best to offer you a refund for the relevant rewards. Otherwise, since we are delivering some digital rewards as soon as the campaign ends, we won't be able to offer refunds at this time for those pledges.
