How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.

To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.

All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.

Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.

Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.

When will I be charged for my pledge?

Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.

What happens after the campaign is over?

The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.

The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.

Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.

Project FAQ

I'm a Returning Backer, do I need to have backed all your old campaigns to get the expansions?

Nope! If you backed atleast one of our previous Backerkit campaigns, you will get all 3 of the expansions added to your pledge FOR FREE!

How do I get in touch with you?

Where do you ship from, and what are the shipping costs?

We ship all items from the United Kingdom. Shipping costs are not included in your pledge level and will be charged separately through BackerKit after the campaign ends. Why is shipping so expensive?

All shipping costs are determined and charged by our shipping partners, these costs are agreed prior to the campaign but should they increase we will not charge you more. Note: If you include add-ons, this cost will most likely increase as our shipping is calculated based on weight not items.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, we ship internationally. However, please note that backers outside the UK may incur additional charges such as VAT, taxes, or customs fees. Unfortunately, we cannot deliver to Brazil, Russia, Afghanistan, Ukraine, South America, Iran, Iraq, or Syria.

Will I have to pay VAT or other taxes?

UK residents pledging for non-book-related rewards like the enamel pins or card deck will have VAT applied during the pledge management process. International backers may also be responsible for VAT, taxes, or customs fees, depending on their country's regulations.

What if my package gets lost, damaged, or misdelivered?

If your package arrives damaged or items are missing, please report it to [email protected] within 30 days of receipt. For lost or misdelivered packages, contact us within 60 days of the shipping date for follow-up or reshipment.

What is the expected delivery timeline for the novel and other rewards?

Fulfillment is currently planned for September 2025. However, this date is subject to change based on editing, production and shipping timelines. We will keep you updated through regular communication.

Can I get a refund if I change my mind?

Refunds are available up to 7 days after the end of the campaign by contacting us with your request. After this period, we cannot offer refunds on collected pledges. Refunds are subject to a 10% fee to cover Backerkit & Stripe Fees. Please note that Backerkit Support may take 2-3 working days to notify us of your message so there is a chance your refund request may be reject if it does not reach us within 7 days.

Can I change my pledge or add extras after the campaign ends?

Yes, you can modify certain aspects of your pledge or add extras during the pledge management phase through BackerKit. Please be aware that changes to your pledge or adding extras may impact your final shipping costs.

Will the final product be exactly as shown during the campaign?

While we strive to deliver high-quality items, the final product may vary in some aspects from what was shown during the campaign. This includes potential changes in design, size, or content.

How will I know when my reward is being shipped?

You will receive an email with tracking information once your reward is shipped. It is your responsibility to track and manage the delivery of your package, this includes making sure you are around on the expect date of delivery and chasing missed deliveries.

Who is responsible for import duties and taxes?

As the backer, you are responsible for any import duties, taxes, or customs fees. Please ensure you are aware of your country’s import regulations before pledging.
