3D2U’s “Heartfire Hatchery” Dragon Conservation Program

Dragons, though once thought to be only of myth and legend, have been spotted once more in the realm of mortals. There are many varieties of the dragon species, each as unique and magical as the next. In an effort to help expand the dragon population and keep them from the endangered species list, the adventuring merchants at 3D2U have decided to begin a dragon conservation program: The Heartfire Hatchery.

The Heartfire Hatchery is a program dedicated to discovering new subspecies of dragons and expanding their populations in an effort to protect their species and keep their magic flourishing in the mortal realm. We have decided to proceed in two ways to help these majestic creatures continue to thrive.

  1. Adoptions: Through our efforts, we at Heartfire Hatchery have hatched a small collection of various dragon subspecies unique to our corner of the realms. In order to make room for more hatchlings, we have decided to launch an adoption program! Adopting a dragon can bring you boundless joy, fulfillment, and entertainment.

These little ones often enjoy being gently wiggled and love nothing more than to sit close by their humanoid caretakers at every opportunity. We have found that they are relatively easy to care for. They are quiet and content with being handled by their humanoid companions or left alone with a comfortable place to perch.

We have five subspecies of dragons that we have identified at this time: Water, Deep Sea, Geode, Succulent, and Mushroom. We have taken great care in hatching and nurturing every dragon in our care as we prepare them for their forever homes. Each subspecies of dragon has its own unique connection to nature and all of them look forward to building an extraordinary companionship with those willing to give them a loving home.

  1. Hatching Program: Hatching new dragons is an important part of dragon conservation. Heartfire Hatchery has decided to expand our conservation efforts by compiling magical “eggs” (STL files) through which others can join in on the conservation effort by “hatching” (3D printing) their own dragons! Our current hatching method involves the use of an Ender 3 V3 SE incubator and Creality or Eryone3D brand PLA DNA strands (filaments) while following the filament recommended heat settings. The hatching process has not yet been tested with other printer or filament types. A DNA specialist will be on hand to assist with any questions one may have when hatching their dragons.

Dragon Subspecies

1. Water Dragon: Water dragons tend to frequent coral reefs. In fact, they blend in well with the reefs due to the coral and seaweed that grows between their fins. These dragons also sport shell-like horns and features that look like barnacles and starfish to help them blend in with other marine life. Their mermaid-like tails and numerous fins make them excellent swimmers.

Size: ~20.32 centimeters long (8 inches)
Weight :~40 grams

2. Deep Sea Dragon: Deep sea dragons are found in the deepest darkest parts of the ocean. Because of this, these dragons have an esca, (or “fishing rod”,) similar to an angler fish on their heads which helps them lure food to them in the dark waters. These dragons have shell-like horns and spiky fins which help keep them protected in the depths.

Size: ~20.32 centimeters long (8 inches)
Weight: ~45 grams

3. Geode Dragon: Geode dragons are often found near volcanic regions. Much like geodes, these dragons look as if they had once been solid rock that had been cracked open to reveal beautiful crystals within. Their skin is rough and rock-like and they sport beautiful crystals and gemstones of various colors and mineral compositions from tail to snout.

Size: ~20.32 centimeters long (8 inches)
Weight: ~48 grams

4. Succulent Dragon: Succulent dragons tend to be found in arid environments such as deserts or alpine ecosystems though sometimes they can be spotted in more tropical climates. These dragons have features resembling various succulents such as echeveria, senecio, and prickly pear. Sometimes these dragons can be mistaken for natural plant life and may be found curled up in clusters of normal succulent plants.

Size: ~20.32 centimeters long (8 inches)
Weight: ~57 grams

5. Mushroom Dragon:
Mushroom dragons can be found within deep lush forests. These dragons have features that resemble various fungi and seem to be able to connect with the mycelium of most any fungal variety. Their tails somewhat resemble the sulfur shelf mushroom often found on trees and their head and body resemble the fly agaric mushroom.

Size: ~20.32 centimeters long (8 inches)
Weight: ~56 grams

About 3D2U.org

______________________________________________

3D2U.org is a husband and wife owned business that uses a mixture of woodworking, laser engraving, 3D printing, and other art tools to lovingly make wondrous items for you and your adventuring party. We enjoy making new nerdy creations, whether by our own design or by working with other small businesses to license designs. Ami and Jesse work hard to lovingly source, design, and build every item that they sell hoping that others will love them just as much as they do. Their two dogs, cat, and chickens often supervise their creative process and help remind them to take the appropriate break times for scritches and snacks.

3D2U.org has sold our crafts at various conventions and renaissance fairies over the past three years. These locations include the following: The New Jersey Renaissance Faire, the Delaware Renaissance Faire, Smithville Renaissance Faire, Wheaton Arts Fantasy Faire, Level Up Winter Retreat 2024, Too Many Games Expo, and Contropolis NJ. We will also be visiting the Bucks Renaissance Faire, the Sparta Renaissance Faire, the New Lakewood Renaissance faire this year as well as revisiting the Delaware Renaissance Faire this fall!

As Ami has decided to dive head first into teaching herself 3D design this year, we decided to start this campaign in order to help her continue to create and share her designs with the world. The inevitable goal of this campaign is to raise enough funds to afford a Thangs Marketplace account in order to begin selling the digital files and commercial licensing for the creations she will manifest.

Please make sure to check out our website and follow us on social media to see what new shenanigans we get ourselves involved with!
