Edit

In the Shadow of Glory is a two-player epistolary TTRPG of flawed heroes and broken villains. One player is a hero who has gone unmatched, and the other player - their arch nemesis. Both have been unable to thwart the other, and have resigned to coexist. Explore the nostalgic relationship between two long-lost foes as they both struggle with the weight of ultimate power.

You'll love In the Shadow of Glory if you like:
  • morally grey protagonists
  • melancholy stories of isolation and connection
  • superhero narratives that focus on characters rather than epic fight scenes.

In the Shadow of Glory is a 40+ page game containing:
  • adaptive rules for playing long and short games
  • extensive tables for unique character creation
  • evolving prompt tables to drive the narrative
  • an example play running through the entire book
  • advice and tips for letter writing.

Edit

The core engine that drives In the Shadow of Glory is easy to learn:

Each player takes turns doing the following:
  1. receive a letter from the other player
  2. draw cards to discover the weekly events:
    • a mundane event that will affect your alter-ego identity's life
    • a super-powered event that will affect your super-powered identity's life
  3. resolve a goal action to progress personal goals
  4. write and send a letter to your rival.

Edit

The A5 (148mm x 210mm) physical zine will be approximately 40 pages printed on silk-coat paper in full colour and saddle-stitched. However, if we happen to get a large number of pledges, we may look at alternate higher quality printing options. Check out the stretch goals below to learn more!

Shipping fees will be collected post-campaign via the Pledge Manager.

Edit
As part of Pocketopia 2025, we have partnered with the wonderful RV Games who are crowdfunding their game Hit the Road Jack!

If you back both In the Shadow of Glory and Hit the Road Jack, we'll include a hero / outlaw mask as part of your pledge! Get into character and don the mask, just don't lose sight of the human beneath.

Hit the Road, Jack! is a solo/duet game of adrenaline rush and creeping terror. Of chasing and being chased, of being forced to face your sins or to leave them all behind. It is a game of cat and mouse between two characters that we call the Jacks.
Edit

The game is done and we have the final draft of the layout design. Given our experience with fulfilling our previous project, Cartograph, in 6 months, we're confident with our timeline below.
Edit

At this time we are unable to ship to the following countries: Russia, Israel, Pakistan, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Turkey, Belarus, Iran, Iraq, or Syria.

Please note: All shipping costs are estimates. Shipping will be more accurately calculated and charged via the pledge manager after the campaign ends. Please note add-ons will increase this estimate as shipping is charged by weight.

Depending on your country, VAT or import taxes may also be charged as part of the shipping. You will be responsible for paying VAT or additional taxes if your country enforces them.

Jessie (She / Her) - Lead Designer

Jessie is a dice artist, game designer, and potion brewer from Queensland Australia. After binging every episode of One Punch Man, Jessie frantically began working on In the Shadow of Glory. The idea of being so powerful it becomes boring, or even lonely, stuck with her, and became the core theme through the game. After many playtests, Jessie is excited to bring her debut game as lead designer to life! Previously Jessie has contributed to games such as Cartograph, Caught in the Rain, TCP Foundation, and Host.

Brandon (He / Him) - Graphic Designer, Artist

The second Raven of the four from The Ravensridge Emporium, Brandon has been designing games for over four years. He created Cartograph, and has since contributed to the many endeavours of The Ravensridge Emporium. Currently he is running fortnightly games of Ultra Violet Grasslands, and always comes back to his favourite TTRPG, Dread.

Reizor (She / They) - Poet

Reizor is a disabled, queer artist living in Newcastle, Australia on the lands the Worimi and Awabakal people.
She publishes games, zines, and poetry on her itch.io page, here. Her work explores themes of intersectional utopia, anticapitalist transhumanism, self sacrifice, neo-mysticism, celebratory body horror, and outer space.
