Rob Porteous is a full-time writer and coach based in Canberra, Australia. He has been a bulk grain weighbridge officer, a speech writer and a research physicist (among other things). He has worked around the world and loves languages. He speaks half a dozen languages—a few fluently—and is currently learning Korean!
Rob writes science fiction and fantasy short stories and novels. Some of the short stories have won awards and he's still working on getting the novels published!
Rob has also taught creative writing, specializing in speculative fiction. He has written a book on writing speculative fiction novels based on the masterclass he presented for several years. He is active in the local writing community and is a long-time member of the executive (and immediate past president) of the Canberra Speculative Fiction Guild.
Rob has a doctorate in physics and maintains a keen interest in all of science and medicine, from the cutting edge through to the arcane. He was commissioned to design and write a coffee-table illustrated history of the Questacon Science Circus to commemorate its thirtieth anniversary. He enjoys helping writers with all aspects of the science in their science fiction (for accuracy, plausibility and clarity of explanation).
Rob was a senior executive in the Australian federal government and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors Corporate Governance course. He consulted in business strategy before moving to writing full-time.
