How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.

To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.

All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.

Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.

Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.

When will I be charged for my pledge?

Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.

What happens after the campaign is over?

The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.

The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.

Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.

Project FAQ

Where do I get to choose my designs?

At the moment, you're only backing for the quantity of items you'd like. Once the project is over, a survey will be sent to your email where you get to tell me which designs you pledged for, as well as other important information like your shipping address.

I'm moving within the next few months! Can I change my address?

Yes! You'll be able to make changes to your address any time up until the pins arrive to me and the fulfillment stage begins. Additionally, 48 hours before addresses are locked, you will receive an email to confirm that everything looks good.

May I purchase something in your online store to have it ship together with my Backerkit reward and save on shipping?

You absolutely can! Please just leave a note at checkout with the name you used to back this project for easy combining. The shipping addresses should match. Once your order is ready to be dispatched, you will receive a refund for any excess shipping charges.

After I've submitted my survey, may I change the design of the item I initially ordered?

For the most part, I will be ordering several extras of each design. I will try my best to accommodate, but please note that backers with an accurate and complete survey will be prioritized after bulk orders have been placed. In the case I do not have enough of the design you'd like in stock, I may not be able to change your order.

Can I get a refund?

BackerKit is not an online store, but a funding platform. All funds raised from BackerKit goes into producing the items or purchasing shipping supplies needed to fulfill the project, so refunds cannot be issued once payment has been processed. Please also take note of the estimated shipping date, as items need to be produced after I have taken into account everyone's preferences on designs. In case of an emergency, please email me at [email protected] and we may be able to work something out. In these cases, a refund may be issued for 90% of your pledge (non-refundable BackerKit and banking fees.)

How will I know my order has shipped?

Please keep an eye out in your emails! BackerKit will send you a confirmation email with your tracking number once it's ready to be shipped out. Please refer to the story page for shipping estimates (may vary depending on the country your package is being shipped to.) For Canadian lettermail packages, you will still receive a confirmation email that your order has shipped, but you will not be able to track it.

When should I expect the items to arrive?

I am expecting to get everything in hand by July 2024, and you should be receiving your rewards shortly afterwards. Please refer to the shipping estimates section of the project page to determine how long it will take for the package to arrive in your country! Please note that once packages have been shipped, the estimated delivery date is out of my hands. In the case the package gets lost, I may either issue a refund or reship your package. Refunds cannot be processed due to longer than expected delivery times. While the schedule is properly laid out and I will stick to it the best I can, sometimes there may be delays with the factory (either holidays or the pins arrive in poor quality and need to be remade.)
