BackerKit FAQ
How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.
To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.
All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.
Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.
Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.
When will I be charged for my pledge?
Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.
What happens after the campaign is over?
The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.
Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.
Project FAQ
β What is a "Cross-Collab" and how do I get these free pins? β
A Cross Collaboration are when two BackerKit creators partner together to create a fun and free gift for pledgers who pledge to both of their campaigns! How to be eligible for the free pins: 1. Pledge to one creator and their Cross-Collab partner at a physical pledge level ( if you're receiving mail, it's physical π ) a. You can find a Cross-Collab partner in the right column of a creator's story page. For example, if you go to Monty Mothman's story page, you'll see on the right side that there is another project by Princefizzart - that's our Collab partner! 2. Receive your free pins with your order! π a. This could come from either, or both creators. In our case, I should be shipping out both pins, but this could change. Always keep an eye on your email for updates about your order!
β What do you mean by, "designs to unlock" throughout the campaign? β
π °οΈ: Our first campaign goal will be the creation of Monty Mothman, at $8,000 USD. Once that goal is reached, a stretch goal will be set for $16,000 USD for the next moth design to be created into a plush. Once we are at $16,000 USD, that character is considered "unlocked", and will be made into a plush. As each plush is unlocked, the next stretch goal will be set, until all six designs are unlocked! π
β What is "Choose-A-Sticker"? β
When selecting the "Choose-A-Sticker" Add-On, you're saying that you would like 1 of the 9 stickers shown. You'll be able to select which sticker you want via your BackerKit survey, which is sent to your email after the campaign successfully wraps. If you would like more than one of the stickers, simply increase your quantity - you could get all 9 stickers! Again, you'll simply choose which ones, in your post-campaign survey. You could even select duplicates to give to family or friends. π
β When do I choose the plush that I want? β
π °οΈ: Once the campaign has successfully completed, you will be sent a Backerkit survey to the email that is associated with your Backerkit account. Within that survey, you'll be able to choose which plushies you want, from the ones unlocked throughout the campaign.
β May I choose repeats for my plush choices?β
π °οΈ: Absolutely! For example, if you pledged for 3 plushies, you could select 3 Monty Mothmen if you wanted to. Or even two Monty and one Laisy Luna moth plush.
β What makes Plushpanions eco-friendly? β
π °οΈ: Plushpanions are crafted from 100% Global Recycled Standard ( GRS ) fabrics. GRS fabrics are recycled from post-consumer plastics, such as water bottles and lost fishing line. By using these more expensive fabrics and eco-friendly practices, we're not only reducing plastic in the wild but we are also helping to normalize these manufacturing tactics. Doing so will make these practices more regular and affordable over time, making for a greener tomorrow. Plushpanions are also stuffed with 100% PLA cotton. This is cotton that's spun at a high heat to turn it into a strong filling material that is easy to wash and isn't of any interest to bugs. Due to this material being plant-based, it is also industrially compostable. As an added bonus, this heating process also makes the filling hypoallergenic,
β What are Physical Pledges, Digital Pledges, and What Add-Ons Can I Add? β
β¨ Physical Pledges: These include items that are mailed to you. If there's no mention of an item included, then it is a usually digital tier. Incentive Pins ( Early Bird, Previous Backer, and Cross-Collab) only register if you pledge to a physical tier. β¨Digital Pledges: These are usually $1 - $5 pledges that sometimes come with digital thank-you cards. These tiers are usually to say "You got this, I believe in you and your campaign!", then these pledgers usually share their successful pledge to social media to get the word out. It's a fantastic way to support a project, but it doesn't qualify you for free pins. β¨ Adding Add-Ons - Sometimes Yes, Sometimes No: Here's the tricky part. Every campaign has the option to 1. Turn off being able to add Add-Ons to Digital Pledges, and 2. Select which pledges can have the ability to add which specific Add-Ons. For example, for the $3 Support Pledge, I could turn off every add-on possibility, except for let's say, a silver Mothman pin. I could turn off every Add-On, it's just up to each creator individually. To be clear, every pledge tier of mine has the ability to add any add-ons they like, except for the Brick-and-Mortar Wholesale tier. In summary, you can pledge to the $3 Digital Support Tier, and add any add-ons that you like, but it will still count as a "Digital Pledge" excluding your pledge as counting towards Free Pin Incentives. This may change on BackerKit in the future, but for now, this is the case.
β Why Aren't Cross-Collab or Other Golden Pins Available as Add-Ons? β
I thought about this for a while, and the conclusion that I came to is that, while I would love to make every Add-On and Pledge customizable for each Backer, it takes away the incentive part of "Incentive Pins". For example, if the Cross-Collab pin were added as an Add-On, there would be no incentive to back my partner's awesome project! This is why Incentive Pins are not available as Add-Ons, for this campaign.
