Today, Grantville . . . Yesterday, the World!

In the year 2000, the whole town of Grantville, West Virginia, found itself encircled by a mysterious ring of fire, transported to 1630s Germany . . . and determined to change the world.

Eric Flint's collaborative Ring of Fire series – with its tales of castaways in time making the most of a one-way trip to the 1630s – has encompassed hundreds of books, anthologies, and magazines, making it the largest alternative-history setting yet created. Now it ventures into a new frontier: the gaming table.

GURPS Ring of Fire is both an exciting setting to explore and an invaluable resource for fans of the book series. With contributions by Ring of Fire authors, it presents:

  • The alternate history, including a timeline from 1632-1637.
  • Descriptions for dozens of interesting individuals and nine famous organizations.
  • Character-creation rules for unlimited possibilities to explore this new frontier.
  • Maps of important locales, including Grantville and beyond.
  • Key equipment, weapons, and vehicles, plus a system for copying or reinventing up-time gear.
  • And much more!

With GURPS Ring of Fire, tomorrow may be a memory, but today is what you make it!

GURPS Ring of Fire requires the GURPS Basic Set, Fourth Edition, and players who do not have a copy or wish to upgrade can secure their copy of the upcoming GURPS Basic Set, Fourth Edition Revised book in the campaign, but it will also be available late this summer on Warehouse 23.

In the year 2000, the West Virginia mining town of Grantville was sent across the globe and 369 years into the past. Everything within six miles, including about 3,500 people, arrived in a Europe reeling with the chaos of the Thirty Years’ War.

The people of Grantville were thrust into war, sectarian violence, famine, and plague. But they didn't just survive. They thrived, and they set about helping the people around them. They changed the world.

Eric’s vision in 1632 was that good people could and would rise to any challenge. The heroes of 1632 are no-nonsense blue-collar Americans – and, as the series develops, are joined by many people, both nobles and commoners, who adapt to freedom and democracy with a speed that amazes even their "up-time" guests.

With their new friends and allies, the people of Grantville fight against oppression, slavery, disease, and simple ignorance. They explore, invent, and build.

What will your Ring of Fire campaign be like?

GURPS Ring of Fire covers historical content, including slavery. We provide guidance to help players approach this and other campaigns with mutual respect and open communication.

GURPS Basic Set, Fourth Edition Revised

GURPS lets you be anyone you want in any world you can imagine. Elves in fantasy, Musketeers in historical France, action heroes or superheroes in today's world, futuristic space explorers, cartoon characters . . . GURPS provides tools for all this and more. That's why it has been the premier universal roleplaying game for four decades!

When GURPS Fourth Edition came out in 2004, those tools needed two books: Characters combined some of the GURPS Basic Set, Third Edition with GURPS Compendium I, while Campaigns merged the rest of the Basic Set with swaths of GURPS Compendium II. Ever since, gamers have asked us to put it all in one place.

  • 592-page, full-color hardcover (PDF available)
  • New cover and a two-column layout
  • Contains everything from Characters and Campaigns, lightly edited for internal consistency, errata fixes, sensitivity, and to bring a few bits of information up to date.
  • BONUS: Includes 25 pages of rule highlights from GURPS books and Pyramid articles published between 2004 and 2025.

The GURPS Basic Set, Fourth Edition Revised is not a new edition. It is fully compatible with all Fourth Edition material in print, and all text appears on the same pages, preserving page references.

Backers that select the $40 and $120 pledge levels will also receive PDF copies of the relevant titles. This is a campaign backer benefit, and will need to be purchased separately following.

Edit

We've collected a few recommended titles and placed them into the campaign add-on section. After the project closes, we will open the pledge manager, where you may select additional items to add to your pledge. If you don't see what you're looking for in the campaign add-on section, it may show up in the pledge manager!

Other great GURPS books and supplements will be available in the pledge manager. To see a full list of what to expect, click here.

After the project closes and all pledges are processed by BackerKit, we will open the pledge manager. This will be a number of weeks after the project ends. You will be guided through the survey and the add-on store. Then you will need to provide your physical address and finalize payment for shipping, add-ons, and any applicable taxes.  The final shipping total will be calculated by the total weight all items. Please see the shipping table for base costs for each pledge level.

Our current estimate is for this project to begin fulfillment in Spring 2027.

Displayed prices are only estimates and subject to change.

United States Shipping & Taxes: Pledges shipped within the United States will have state taxes applied where we are legally required to collect.

International: Backers are ultimately responsible for addressing any additional fees beyond what is collected in the pledge manager. Where applicable, we will charge the necessary taxes for your region. In the event that your package is not collected or your required fees are not paid, the package may be marked "to abandon/destroy" (instead of "return to sender," which results in prohibitively expensive return-shipping costs for Steve Jackson Games). Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer refunds or replacements for pledges in these cases.

If you wish, you may choose to use a fulfillment service. This allows you to pledge for the project and then provide us with a qualifying address for the delivery of your rewards. Forwarding from the fulfillment service, as well as any local fees, is your responsibility when using a fulfillment company. We are not responsible for pledges sent to forwarding services after tracking has confirmed delivery.

If your country is not listed, please refer to the rest of the world pricing.

We will not accept packages to the following countries: Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, and Syria. We reserve the right to update and change this list at any time.
