We're closing in on the end of Space Wizard Year 3! Only four more books are releasing before we have a new campaign for Year 4, coming in June. There's already an amazing lineup of books for this, and I'm starting to get some cover images already, so stay tuned for that in a later update!
I just shipped out a bunch of books, and the next set will go out around when C.J. Hosack's The Traveler's Magic releases in March. Then there's Heather Tracy's book, Only a Chapter, coming to you in April, my nonfiction, How to Operate Your Body, in May, and we're capping the year off with J.S. Fields' new Ardulum book, now titled Mirrors of Andal!
For now, I've got three covers to show off. The first is Station in the Sky, by Caye March, which just shipped out! This book combines Caye Marsh's first story, Peace in the Sky, along with the all-new Station in the Sky, which follows the events of the first book.
Station in the Sky, by Caye Marsh. Against a purple sunset, a white space station at the top of the cover hovers over the title, which in turn is over a domed city in a wasteland, holding the only trees. Below that is the author's name.
Second, we've actually got a twofer for you. We have a new cover for C.J. Hosack's The Traveler's Magic, and Katie Cordy did such a good job with it, we had her make a new cover for The Slayer's Magic as well to match!
The Slayer's Magic and The Traveler's Magic, both by C.J. Hosack. On the left cover, a male and female silhouette sneak in front of compressing bookshelves inset into an outline of a vast library. On the right cover, the same outline of the library is in the background, but in the foreground is a great tree with a sword in a rock beneath it, and several mice gnawing at a branch from the tree.
Finally, I'm excited to show off Heather's new book, coming out in April! Only a Chapter is a sci-fi-lite romance with parallel realities and a bisexual protagonist!
Only a Chapter, by Heather Tracy. The title is at the top, and against a stylized rendition of the bi pride flag, a woman with red hair and green eyes, wearing a breast cancer awareness pin, has her body turned to a faceless male figure in a tux on the right, while her eyes go to a faceless female figure in a tux on the left. The author name is at the bottom.
If you're read any Space Wizard books and enjoyed them, I'd love it if you left a review on Goodreads, Amazon, or any other storefront. That really helps get the attention of new readers.
Finally, are you going to WorldCon in Seattle this year? If you have a voting membership, then you can suggest books for the Hugo award! Space Wizard has a lot of opportunities by some excellent authors. You can find a list of eligible works right here!
That's it for now, but I'll be back next month with more updates!
I just took several packages to the post office to fulfil orders for the release of Kristina W. Kelly's Tavern Tale! If you haven't seen the cover yet, this was drawn by the amazing Serene Chia, who also did the cover for Physical Magic. The lettering was done by Audrey Logsdon, another local artist I met through vendor markets.
Tavern Tale has been getting some great reception as always, and for this book, and any of the others from Space Wizard, if you've read and enjoyed them, putting a review on Amazon, Goodreads, or any other review site really helps the books get noticed!
Next month we'll see the release of Caye Marsh's Station in the Sky, the follow-up to last year's Peace in the Sky. This new version not only includes the new book, but includes Peace in the Sky as well, for your reading pleasure!
Finally, I have some amazing news connected to the second campaign I ran in 2024, for Lesbians in Space, the anthology.
Our final entrant count for submissions was 54 stories, and a total of almost 234,000 words! To put this in perspective, we raised enough money during the campaign to pay authors for about 20 stories or around 80,000 words...
That means we got enough stories to fill almost three anthologies!
Finally, we made the decision to have not one, but two anthologies! That means Lesbians in Space: Where No Man Has Gone Before will be releasing in June 2025, but we are also preparing a new campaign later in 2025 to raise funds for Lesbians in Space: The Sapphics Strike Back! This is along with Space Wizard's Year 4 campaign, still currently slated for June 2025, so be sure to watch for announcement for both campaigns!
That's it for now. I'll be back with more news next month!
I realized I haven't put out an update in a while. November was a month!
At any rate, I just took about a billion packages to the post office, so if the books you got from the campaign are released with Foxfire in the Snow, Ocean of Fireflies, or the two RPGs, they're coming your way! In addition, if you got the Space Wizard Year 3 subscription, then the first half of the books are shipping out to you. This includes Talio's Codex, Space Station X, Fiery Deeps, Empress of Dust, Physical Magic, Foxfire in the Snow, and Ocean of Fireflies. The second half will be shipping when the last book of the year releases, likely June 2025.
That's a lot of books!
In addition, I've released 4 new books since November 26, so I've been busy! I don't think I've showed the covers for the two RPGs, so here are all four books side by side! I got a chance to run a game of Spells of the Symphony at the BackerKit booth at PAX Unplugged in Philadelphia last weekend, which was lots of fun. One of the players bought a copy while we were playing!
Foxfire in the Snow, Ocean of Fireflies, and the two RPGs, Spells of the Symphony, and Creatures of Ruin
I get a week or two to rest, and then the first book of 2025, Tavern Tale, will be coming out. I hope you all have an excellent end of the year and holiday season, and I'll be back next year with more goodies.
If you are around the Raleigh/Durham, NC area this weekend, come out to Oddville at The Fruit in Durham this Saturday the 14th for lots of strange and unique goods, starting at 6pm. I'll have all my books there as well!
I just wanted to share a quick update. I got my advance copies of Physical Magic yesterday and they look fantastic! I was able to work with a local author and artist, Audrey Logsdon, to upgrade the title and lettering a bit to give it a nice pop.
The front and back of Physical Magic!
The formatting for Foxfire in the Snow is almost complete, and as soon as it is, I'm going to put in an order for that one as well. Oceans of Fireflies will be ready soon after that, and all three books will be coming to you before the end of the year. For those who got the subscription. All the newly released books will be coming to you once I get Oceans, so be on the lookout...
I've also been busy putting the RPGs together, which was a new experience! I've been working in Affinity Publisher, which gives me a lot more formatting leeway, especially with graphics. Here are a couple page layouts for the Dissolutionverse and the Creatures of Ruin RPGs. Both of these manuals will be releasing very soon!
The Dissolutionverse RPG manual depicting vehicle types
The Creatures of Ruin manual depicting pinchdragons and the Northeast faction
Whew! That's five books releasing before the end of the year, and we'll be back in January with the release of Tavern Tale.
I'll have another update as soon as I'm shipping new books out!
I've got a bunch of packages with Fiery Deeps shipping out tomorrow! Those of you with the full year subscription, you'll be getting a BIG box in November with the first half of the titles for the year, including Physical Magic, Foxfire in the Snow, Oceans of Fireflies and more!
Did you know we have only 3 days left in our second campaign of the year? Lesbians in Space: Where No Man Has Gone Before, is currently sitting at $8,000 and we've hit 3 stretch goals! I'm really to hoping to hit our $10,000 stretch goal by Thursday the 26th, which means we'll have special, fancy hardcover versions available of the anthology. The fancy hardcovers won't be available afterward, so now's the time to get that version and help us hit that goal!
We're already getting some fantastic submissions for the anthology, and we'll have some amazing stories coming from Hugo-Award winning and bestselling authors:
- Seanan McGuire, multiple Hugo Award-winning author of the Wayward Children series, the October Daye series, and the Incryptid series!
- Travis Baldree, author of Legends and Lattes, shortlisted for the Hugo Award for best novel in 2023, as well as exceptional audiobook narrator!
- Emma Newman, Hugo Award-winning podcaster and author of the Planetfall series, which was shortlisted for the Best Series Hugo Award in 2020!
- Mary Robinette Kowal. Hugo Award-winner Mary Robinette Kowal has written: The Spare Man, The Glamourist Histories series, Ghost Talkers, the Lady Astronaut Universe, and many short stories.
Booktopia 2024 is going so well, and I'd encourage you to check out all the projects. 52 of the 59 projects have funded, and a couple more are almost there! Each project is also paired with a collab partner, and we're offering special rewards for people backing physical rewards. For example, if you back Lesbians in Space and my partner Aimee Cozza's The Warm Machine, you'll get 6 out of a 56 card deck of oracle cards!
As a special bonus, if you back 5 projects or more, BackerKit will also send you a special metal bookmark!
The creators have also had a lot of fun behind the scenes, getting to know each other and supporting each other's projects. It's an amazing adventure, so go check it out!
