Project Update: Living Myths: Nymphs, Sidhe, and Minotaurs

There are only three days left on the campaign, so let's take a look at three especially mythic ancestries: nymphs, sidhe, and minotaurs!

As guardians of nature's beautiful places, nymphs need a bit of a push to go on adventures, but otherwise fit in quite naturally. Given how many varieties of nymph existed in mythology, there's a lot of room for expanding based on the source material (though many of them were either specific types of dryads or cousins of naiads). Nymphs are in a special place where they're the only ancestry that wound up expanded three times. First, they unlocked a versatile heritage for those born of or touched by nymphs during the Year of Monsters campaign. Then, due to a pledge drive proposed and organized by the fans, nymphs received an expansion that will add new heritages and potentially other content. Those aren't locked in completely, but they might include asteriai (star nymphs associated with the space element) or maenads (wilder and more dangerous nymphs associated with revelry and the poison element), so let me know what you think about those possibilities. Lastly, thanks to you, we unlocked the nymph queen archetype, allowing for some powerful abilities, including a bit of spellcasting, and options to be tied to the land and have the land respond and fight on your side!

Next up is sidhe. They're my favorite success story from Year of Monsters because they had the lowest ranking in the ranked-choice survey for the first campaign, but then they had the highest number of people who read them and sent me messages saying how much they loved them even though they had never expected to like them so much. With a fey blend of mythical source material, fairy tale logic, and alien morality, sidhe let you get a little meta if you want, since tropes and genre conventions come true for them (they even have a Plot Armor feat that helps you survive if you aren't fighting a narratively satisfying foe to kill you). I had so much fun writing them that they wound up longer than originally intended, meaning extra content is already available, and they're probably getting a small expansion to their base material, likely including something involving fairy courts, in addition to a much larger expansion we added thanks to you in the form of the faerie scion versatile heritage, for the children of sidhe, as well as those who were forever changed when they ate the faerie food and drank the faerie drinks.

Lastly, we have minotaurs. With both Large and Medium heritage options, this was our first ancestry with the option to start at Large. It's also the ancestry that it seems like everyone wanted to do in Pathfinder 2e, as we wound up seeing multiple other 3rd party minotaurs, and then even Paizo is getting into minotaur mode this year. Since the core chassis for these minotaur ancestries seem likely to be compatible, this provides an unprecedented opportunity for minotaur fans to mix and match feats and heritages from each minotaur ancestry in order to gain more options to play with! We also have the art of the minotaur mastermind Minotauriarty, whose name sent Linda into a laughing fit. Unlike the other two, minotaur won't be expecting an expansion in Classic Creatures.

Tomorrow, we'll look at the two final misfits: sthenos and gremlins
