How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.
To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.
All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.
Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.
Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.
When will I be charged for my pledge?
Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.
What happens after the campaign is over?
The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.
Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.
Project FAQ
Do you ship to the EU?
No, but blame the GDSP! Seriously though, until there's more information on how I can make sure that everything complies with the new regulation for imports into the EU, I unfortunately can't ship directly there. I can ship through a proxy though, so if you have a friend in the US who's willing to ship you a gift, I'm happy to ship to your friend!
How does voting for the stretch pins work?
As a backer (supporter tier or up), you can vote in polls to decide which stretch goal gets unlocked next before the next stretch goal milestone is hit. Polls might come quick and often once the campaign reaches it's first goal, so make sure you get the campaign updates in your priority inbox! If y'all just blow past all the unlocking stretch goals, I reserve the right to just unlock all the pins :D
Are these pin designs exactly what I'll get?
The pin designs are all locked and loaded. Please be aware that while I'm sending in Pantone colors, every monitor, screen, and device have different color profiles loaded and they don't correspond to Pantone colors exactly and they have millions of more colors than pantone colors, so the pins may look slightly different to what you see here.
Tell me more about the Custom Pin pledge tier!
If you back at the Custom Pin pledge tier, not only will you receive any and all campaign pins unlocked, but I'll also work with you to design your own custom 1.65" soft enamel pin as well as have 100 pins produced. I won't sell these myself - these are yours to do what you will with - you're basically buying my illustration/design services and manufacturing experience. If you're considering this tier and want to run any ideas past me - email me at rick [at] rickkitagawa.com The fine print is: I only do monsters/occult/horror-adjacent pins, and I absolutely refuse to do designs with any sort of sexist, racist, ablist, etc. messaging, including violence against women. So this isn't a good choice if you want pins of bloody naked women made. How long do I have to fill out my backer survey?
You'll have either 15 days from when surveys are sent out to send in your backer surveys. After that, your pledge will be seen as a kind donation to the cause. I'll be sending out updates every week from when they go out until lock date, so as long as you're checking whatever email is associated with your BackerKit account, you'll hear about it.
Wait, what's with the All-Seeing Oracle? Is it real?
The All-Seeing Oracle is the possessed head of a bog witch that has swelled with both power and age. It sees all and knows all. It even knew you were going to ponder this question. It has been mounted on a wooden stake and offers insight and clarity to those who seek its power and pays worthy tribute to it. As it is being honored through the creation of an enamel pin, it has offered its services to Backers who choose to reserve a 30-minute sessions on Zoom with the Oracle and its Attendant. The Attendant, who facilitates earthly transactions and actions for the Oracle, will be there to lend their voice box to the Oracle and facilitate the experience.
What this "Free collab pin" I'm hearing about?
For Pintopia, most creators have paired up with another one. If you back both campaigns at a physical reward tier (so my Support tier won't qualify), you'll be sent the rewards from BOTH campaigns. This is also the only way to get the Angela Possessed pin - so make sure you show some love to Mark's campaign as well if you want it!
