As mentioned last month, we’re expanding the Shadow City Mysteries universe with a series of Visual Novels! Case Files takes you deep into the lives of Shadow City’s most influential and notorious characters. The choices you make in these stories will shape the world leading into Shadow City Mysteries: A Clockwork Noir.

Today, we launched the Steam page for the first case in the series: Shadow City Mysteries: Case Files – Rise of the Rat King! A demo is coming soon, followed by the full release. Wishlist it today!

Speaking of Rise of the Rat King, Adam Schumpert continues to work on characters tied to the Court of Rats. These figures will not only appear in the TTRPG but also in our upcoming Visual Novels.

This month’s art preview features The Hustler, a Court of Rats Savant Subclass. Backers can find the updated subclass details in the special backer section of our Discord!

We’ve completed the first draft of the Heavy, Savant, and Infiltrator classes! Now, we’re taking a short break from class development to focus on character creation and early gameplay, so we can begin playtesting as soon as possible.

We’re now aiming to start playtesting the character creation system in March. If you’d like to participate, let us know on Discord! External playtesting will follow about a month later.

We hope you all had a wonderful holiday break. On our side, the team took some time to rest and recharge for what’s shaping up to be a busy and exciting 2025. This month, we’ve got updates to share, with even more coming in February and beyond. At the bottom of this update, you’ll find an exclusive WIP preview of the Savant Class for our backers. Last month, we showcased the Heavy Class, and we’re excited to hear your feedback! Be sure to share your thoughts in our Discord, where we’ve set up a special section just for backers.

Adam Schumpert is hard at work on characters tied to the Court of Rats, who will appear not only in the TTRPG but also in our upcoming series of Visual Novels.

In Shadow City Mysteries: Case Files, we’ll take you through the lives of some of Shadow City’s most influential and notorious characters. The choices you make will shape the world and set the stage for your experience in Shadow City Mysteries: A Clockwork Noir.

We’re bringing together all the pieces you’ll need to create your character. This includes locking in levels 1–3 for all classes, as well as building systems for city creation, patrons and contacts, and the influence system.

We’re aiming to start playtesting the character creation system in late February/early March. If you’d like to participate in these sessions, let us know on Discord! External playtesting will follow about a month later.

We’re thrilled to share the full piece by Adam Schumpert, featuring the Society of Ravens' politician and their rebellious son. Look closely, and you’ll spot Luana Zahra’s faction designs woven into the image. Their compelling story will play a pivotal role not only in Shadow City Mysteries: A Clockwork Noir but also in an upcoming Visual Novel we’re excited to be developing.
