Project Update: Surveys are in Review! Files Incoming :)
I hope you've October has been good so far!
It's raining like crazy here on the Emerald Isle so the seasons are definitely a changing.
Ahead of the launch of Mote of Madness tomorrow, I wanted to let you know that we've submitted surveys to Backerkit for review which usually takes 48 hours. Then we start the smoke test, which sends 10% of surveys over 24 hours to ensure nothing is broken. Then the remainder of the surveys send with the file following soon thereafter.
People have asked why we don't just send the PDF out in an email straight after the campaign ends.
It's a great question.
One challenge is that around 10% of pledge payments fail when a campaign ends, even when it's only $1. And Backerkit gives folks 2 weeks to fix any payment issues before sending us the funds (same as Kickstarter).
The main challenge, however, is version control.
Honestly, most of the Backerkit Pledge Manager is redundant for digital only campaigns, but keeping everything in one place helps us send updates if any changes or additions are made to the PDFs. We are considering moving file deployment to our website because it'll shave up to 5 days off how long you wait for these. AND it'll mean all your Penny Dragon files are up to date and stored in the same location.
But that'll take a good deal of work and October - December is our busiest time of year, so that's a project for 2024.
In the meantime, please keep an eye on your mailbox.
And if you haven't already, please consider following Mote of Madness.
It's another One Dollar One Shot, but in the spirit of continued experimentation, we're adding a little more spice (or should I say slice?) to the campaign.
