BackerKit FAQ
How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.
To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.
All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.
Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.
Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.
When will I be charged for my pledge?
Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.
What happens after the campaign is over?
The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.
Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.
Project FAQ
When will shipping be charged?
Shipping will be charged once the books are with the printers, and we have a confirmed shipping date.
When will the books ship?
Both books are at the manuscript first draft stage, and so we expect to be able to ship the final PDFs in March 2025, and the print books in July 2025.
What size are the books?
Both books are US letter sized (8.5" x 11").
Where do you ship from?
We have dedicated shipping points in the USA and UK. EU orders are shipped in an EU-friendly way from our UK warehouse. We are getting quotes from a Canadian shipper to reduce the cost of Canadian orders, and looking for an Oceania shipper to help reduce the cost of orders for our ANZ community.
What’s a Cthulhu?
A monstrous alien titan that seeped down from space millions of years ago, and now slumbers in the tomb-city of R'lyeh until the stars come right and he lives again to ravage and destroy. Even now, his psychic dreams compel people across the world to worship him and work for his return. He’s part of Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos, a shared story-cycle of cosmic horror.
Who’s H.P. Lovecraft?
Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890-1935) is perhaps the most influential horror writer of the 20th century. Arguing that the old horrors of ghosts, vampires and werewolves were no longer disturbing, Lovecraft looked to scientific revelations about the vast scale of space and time to inspire new horrors.
Wasn’t Lovecraft terribly racist?
Yes, absolutely. Mixed in with his horror of seafood and 18th-century architecture was a fear of anyone who wasn’t an upper-class white New Englander. But TRAIL OF CTHULHU is a 21st century tabletop roleplaying game that welcomes all players. We have adapted Lovecraft's mythology to emphasize the common doom of all humanity equally.
If you always find all the clues instead of rolling to spot them, won’t GUMSHOE games always be a railroad?
Finding the clues is only the first step in solving a mystery – the investigators must still piece those disparate clues together to work out what’s going on, and then decide how to deal with the threat.
