Project Update: ELBOWS *OUT* (MOSTLY) !

Hello there.

Yes, the WORN TUFF ELBOWs and OTHER ITEMS have mostly been all shipped out! There were a few stragglers (backers ) that haven't yet filled out the final *survey* (as it is called) and so those will have to go out in the final batch. Provided those are completed. I am going to the EU for an artist residency and so if these aren't completed by, say, the 21st of September-ish (about a week from now) I will cancel these pledges. Or send the stuff when I get back? So anyway: get on it if you want that stuff

Thanks again to the backers. There were 1200 copies of WORN TUFF ELBOW #3 printed and half of that print run (600) went to comics store distributors. With such a relatively low print run the cost to make each copy is a little high and so on these copies I will just make a little more than it cost to print (i.e not much) once the distributors take their cut. And so that is only to say: being able to sell direct to people helped a great deal. And I am not complaining: I am happy these other ones went out the door elsewhere and not to my apartment.

If you or someone you know is interested in getting a copy of WORN TUFF ELBOW they can have a copy sent to their LOCAL COMIC BOOK STORE via Lunar or Diamond.

Please let me know if you experience any problems with your shipment. It looks like some of them have already been arriving...international orders will take a little longer obviously...below you will see an incredible photo of part of the shipments in my apartment building hallway!

Best,

Marc

Project Update: THE CASE OF THE IMMINENT ELBOW

Hello there everybody (to everybody an Elbow who ordered one),

So, the book is at the printer. The book is WORN TUFF ELBOW #3. I expect it in my hands any week now. And in the meantime I will order some usable boxes to get these things to you. Yes. Here we go and all that. Soon, I will contact those that ordered the original pages to see which ones you can pick from. Other than that it will be pretty straightforward I hope.

And here I will reveal the SECRET FREE ITEM that goes to those that pledged in the first 48 hrs. And that is NON-BRUT FUNNIES #1 ! Cover below. I had it all ready to send to one of these print on demand places today and the shipping price jumped from 20 dollars to 80+ dollars (magically) in the shopping cart, oh my. So the search continues and I think I have located a local place where I can print these hopefully.

NON-BRUT FUNNIES #1
8 pages (including covers)
5 x 7"
hand-numbered out of 150 or 200

AOK, excited to get these out to you, case ALMOST closed.

Oh, yes, I sent out the "SURVEYS" I believe. So check it out.

Best,

Marc

Project Update: THE ELBOW WORK

Hi there,

I have been busy finishing up Worn Tuff Elbow #3 and I am happy to say it is 97.222% complete. All I have left to do is the BACK COVER. And this artwork ties directly into one of the pledge levels in the campaign.

I have had a few questions about still being able to order the book outside of the campaign and when my business dies down a bit I will likely post the book for order at NO WORLD. I just realized how difficult this page is to find so I must soon link it to my long suffering website. Maybe that will help? In this age of non-net neutrality. And these should ship not that long after this first batch.

Also, I believe the book will also be soon available for order through Diamond and Lunar (distributors) via Drawn & Quarterly. These copies will not go out until later in the fall however.

And: by the end of the month I will sort out customer "surveys" (as they call them I think) and shipping will be arranged for later! I am thinking September will be a nice month to ship.

I will leave you with this newly coloured panel from the back pages of the book:

ACTION: Marc had taken some photos of Sammy dancing to a hit by Canadian recording artist Aldo Nova and now they rest...

Oh, and I am reading from my upcoming book RAW SEWAGE SCIENCE FICTION in San Francisco and Portland over the next few days if anybody nearby cares to check that out. Matthew Thurber is showing his film Vexations

Best,

Marc

Project Update: THE ELBOW MOVES ALONG

Dear ELBOW BACKERS and the ELBOW-CURIOUS alike,

It is with great satisfaction to see that WORN TUFF ELBOW #3 has moved past its goal and beyond! Thank you to those who pledged early and to those who have kept it going, it is appreciated.

And so, as I recover from VANCAF and prepare to go to TROPISM this weekend to read from my other upcoming book, RAW SEWAGE SCIENCE FICTION (also available as part of this campaign), I ponder some sort of stretch goal to implement into the program here. We shall see. I have to say, I was mainly just happy to see this funded but the thinking cap will go on regarding what is next. And also to concoct the mystery item to those who pledged in the first 48 hrs.

I do know for sure what is next regarding the book. And that is to complete the "end pages" of this issue. My loose schedule for getting this project to the printer is July 1-15th (which should be easily done).

And speaking of VANCAF, here is a flier I put together featuring a QR CODE to give out there. Please let me know if you require a pdf of this to print out (four to a sheet) and leave at your local laundromat or bus stop:

A flier

EDIT: I just now recieved an email saying that my QR CODES have stopped working unless I give them $$$. Oh well, now I know.

Kind regards,

Marc

Project Update: THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY ELBOW

Well, holy macaroni, thank you for supporting the production of the third issue of WORN TUFF ELBOW. The goal was reached yesterday in 36 hrs! I am very humbled by this of course, I appreciate it.

And yesterday I went for a walk in the woods with a friend near UBC (University of British Columbia). It was nice and quiet but I was, of course, looking at my phone constantly to see how things were going with my crowdfunding here (ha, this was not exactly a pure west coast "natural world" experience). I was excited and surprised it was going so well. I mean, people have things to do and are dealing with their own stuff, pressing matters more important than this and things not even necessarily to do directly with themselves. Anyway, upon returning to my nay-bor-hood [sic] I picked up some GADO GADO (this was my own concern, to do this).

There is a number I talk about in the intro to WORN TUFF ELBOW #3. Number 52. I was sort of preoccupied with this number in my youth (as a teenager) and I would often put it in my art around that time. I was preoccupied with it because it seemed to reveal itself to me at very curious times. And quite often. I also wondered what I would be doing at the age of 52. Anyway, I was given a number for my GADO GADO order on the receipt and so, of course:

GADO GADO

Yes, that's right. "I will be making comic books at the age of 52". I should have known.

I will send some updates soon about progress moving forward and timelines (as far as I know this comic book will still ship out in September no problem whatsoever) and I will also be thinking about what to create for the FREE MYSTERY ITEM (that will be sent to the people who pledged in the first 48 hrs).

Marc
