BackerKit FAQ
How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.
To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.
All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.
Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.
Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.
When will I be charged for my pledge?
Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.
What happens after the campaign is over?
The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.
Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.
Project FAQ
How are the contributors on this project being paid for their work?
Kim, as the creator, is taking on all the financial risk for this project. Contributor pay for Carrie, Hazel, and (if the zine unlocks) our editor, will increase if the project raises more than the cost of manufacturing.
How are your pins graded?
Carrie Alyson, will be helping oversee manufacturing and grading to ensure everything produced for Folkgore is of the highest quality. Having helped them fulfill their Frantic Familiars campaign, I can say firsthand that Carrie has exacting standards when it comes to grading pins! Here's some information they shared about the process on their last campaign: Enamel pins, as unique and intricate pieces of wearable art, can sometimes exhibit minor imperfections. that are are a standard part of the production process and are inherent to the nature of creating enamel pins. I strive for the highest quality in my products and all pins will be individually graded to ensure you receive a Grade A quality pin with minimal imperfections that do not compromise the overall aesthetic or functionality of the pin, including: Pin Placement Variations: Due to the nature of the manufacturing process, there might be slight variations in the placement of the pin posts or backings. This can result in minimal misalignment or unevenness between individual pins. Enamel Fill: While my manufacturer takes great care to ensure consistent and smooth enamel application, there may be slight variations in the enamel fill, resulting in small inconsistencies in color or texture. This adds to the uniqueness and charm of each pin. Metal Plating: The plating process involves electroplating metal onto the pin's base. Occasionally, tiny specks, slight color variations, or minor scratches might be present on the metal surface. Minor Scratches or Dents: During the production, handling, and packaging stages, some pins may acquire minor surface scratches or dents. These can be barely noticeable or may require close inspection to identify. Please note that while these minor imperfections can occur, they do not detract from the overall beauty and appeal of your enamel pins. I am committed to creating a high-quality product that you'll be proud to wear and display, and I won't deliver any pins that I wouldn't be proud to have as part of my own collection.
Can I get the pins from any of Carrie Alyson's previous campaigns?
Yes! Because I will be traveling to Carrie's studio to hand pack Folkgore rewards with them, we will offer add-ons in the backer survey for any remaining stock from their previous campaigns.
What if I want to order a quantity that isn't listed?
All unlocked pins and pin bundles will be available as add-ons through your backer survey after the campaign ends. The prices will be the same as the campaign's regular pledge levels. Early bird deals will not apply.
