How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.
To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.
All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.
Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.
Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.
When will I be charged for my pledge?
Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.
What happens after the campaign is over?
The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.
Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.
Project FAQ
Choosing Your Pins/Items
After the campaign is finished, you will receive an email to complete a Backer Survey. Within this survey you will be able to select which designs you want from the Travel Series, and also have the opportunity to add-on other items from the campaign or our shop! (the pins included in your pledge tier can only be selected from the Stamp Travel Series Collection)
How the Free Collab Pins Work
Here are the steps to receive your TWO free Pintopia Pins: 1. Pledge to our campaign 2. Pledge to Flea Circus's Campaign 3. Successfully pay for your initial pledges 4. Successfully fill out your survey and pay for shipping 5. Enjoy!
How Adding on Items Works
We are so excited to offer the ability to add on other products from our shop for this campaign, including our other pins, Stamp Washi and Art Prints! You will get the option to add any other items from our shop AFTER the campaign ends, when completing your Backer Survey. You will receive the link to complete your Backer Survey via email. We are happy to offer the ability to add on other products from the campaign or our shop, including our other pins, postcards, washi, stickers, and art prints! We've used Backerkit's pledge manager many times and are so happy with how easy it makes adding on products :) You will get the option to add on this campaign's pins or any other item from our shop AFTER the campaign ends, when completing your Backer Survey. You will receive the link to complete your Backer Survey via email.
Adjusting Your Pledge
EARLY BIRD OPTIONS - If you are an early bird backer and you would like to add additional pins to your pledge: you can do so AFTER the campaign when completing your Backer Survey. STANDARD OPTIONS - If you are not an early bird backer and would like to add additional pins from this campaign, change your pledge to a higher reward tier. To change your pledge tier: • Log into BackerKit and click your profile photo/icon on the top right • From the drop down list, select "Your Pledges and Surveys" • Select our campaign • Select "Edit Pledge" • Select which tier you would like to change to from the dropdown menu • Confirm your changes :)
Shipping Charged Separately
Since we are giving backers the ability to add on items from the campaign or our shop, shipping will need to be calculated for each order, and isn't going to be a "one size fits all" flat rate. We've provided shipping estimates on the project page that give you an idea of what to expect, but final shipping charges will be calculated and assessed in BackerKit after the campaign concludes when your surveys are filled out.
Changing Your Address
After you respond to the Backer Survey you can go back later and change your address at any time before we close the survey (this will happen about two weeks before we ship the rewards). You will get a reminder email before we lock down all your information. If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email.
VAT/Customs Charges
Backers outside of the United States may incur additional fees or taxes when receiving your pledge rewards. We recommend you familiarize yourself with the laws and regulations of your region so you know what to expect, as these charges are not something we can control or be fully aware of as the seller. Please do not ask us to mark the package as a “gift” or to lower the value of the package contents, as this is considered illegal. We appreciate your understanding!
