A hostage crisis. It's a scene crime story fans have witnessed many times before. The street is roped off. A negotiator makes contact. A bank robber paces back and forth, realizing his time is running out. But what if the hostages were already dead? What's the robber to do now? Especially if the ghosts of those slain hostages are out for revenge.

CAPTIVE is a 20-page, black and white crime/horror story that spins the bank robber genre on its head. This is primarily a digital campaign (with select physical rewards). As part of the campaign you can get:

  • The digital CAPTIVE comic
  • Digital editions of EMPTY & MASKED
  • A host of digital horror/crime story add-ons
  • Physical copies of EMPTY & The Last Homicide

As a fan of the challenge of storytelling, I always love creating comics that stretch the boundaries of an idea. To experiment with high-concepts and "what if's?" to create a comic experience outside the mainstream of action and adventure. My comic EMPTY began this theme by telling the story of a man waking up in a completely empty city. A partnership with creator Tyler Carpenter continued this trend with MASKED, which imagined a world where everyone had to go about their day wearing exactly the same mask.

Although unconnected story-wise, I've always felt as if these comics were thematically linked. They both deal with ideas of isolation, fear, and despair. For years, I've wanted to pair them together somehow. And now, I've decided to round out this trilogy of black & white, "art house" stories with CAPTIVE. Just like the previous two books, none of these are linked or tied together in any fashion. But they do offer similar experiences that dive deep into psychological terror and emotional turmoil.

The CAPTIVE teams wants to thank you for stopping by our campaign. We understand it's a bit of an out of the box concept, but that's kind of the point. Stories are meant to challenge and experiment with different ideas and formats. The bank robber/hostage standoff premise is something that's been done countless times, but we feel mixing it with a ghost story is an original take. So we hope you enjoy it along with the other "art house" stories.
