BackerKit FAQ

How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.

To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.

All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.

Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.

Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.

When will I be charged for my pledge?

Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.

What happens after the campaign is over?

The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.

The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.

Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.

Project FAQ

When will the book ship?

The book is written. It is in the final review/layout edit stages now. Artists are commissioned after receiving funds. Artwork is generally about a 30-45 day turnaround. Print copies take another 2-3 weeks to complete the order. Mid to end of Feb is the target release for the print. The PDF will be released a few weeks earlier.

What is the BackerKit funding for?

Mostly to commission the artists. I do not use AI Art in ANY of my books - every piece of art is handdrawn by a commissioned artist. After that, publishing & marketing fees.

If I miss the campaign, where can I buy the books later?

All of the books and stuff is available on my web store: https://www.fracturedbrainstudios.com/

Are all of the books signed?

I sign each individual print Player's Guide and GM's Guide, personalized to you. I'll ask who you want the book signed to beforehand. I will also sign the printed source adventure books if asked.

How does the Custom NPC pledge work?

I'll provide art examples from the Dystopian Artists in follow ups and you choose which artist you want. I then use the funds to commission the artist for each piece. I'll send you a draft WIP. When the art is complete, I finish the layouts, send it for professional printing, when I receive the prints, I sign the piece, personalized to you. The art is shipped with your order.

How Do I Setup the Custom NPC?

STEP ONE - Choose an area for your NPC a) Alamex - old west apocalypse style - Cowboys, Robbers, Law Bringers, & Druids b) New Rome - militant land based on old movies about Rome steeped in higher tech with buried fallout vaults, magic, and the desire to conquer - Legionnaires, Raiders, Veterans, Treasure Hunters, Undead Under-lords c) Sorry, no cyborgs, etc. If you backed BOTH Custom Pledges you can also choose from here: d) New Rome (as above, but can include a Scientist, Gadgeteer, or Pilot as a type) e) Summerica - Vikings, Barbarians, Druids, low-tech, etc. f) Corellikan - Land of the Fae (Elf, Dwarf, Dryad, Leprechaun, or Pixie) STEP TWO - Choose a motivation for your NPC a) Why are they there? b) What purpose do they serve? c) Are they good or bad? STEP THREE - Decide what you want the NPC to look like. a) Male or female? b) Monstrous or beautiful or “normal”? c) Unique characteristics – eyepatch, scar, 4 eyes, mohawk, etc. STEP FOUR - Choose an artist to commission Ken, Roman, Elven Maid, Paddy, Decorafis, Mofassa, Amanda, or Tony You and I will chat either through here, email ([email protected]), or discord (thetony2420) - let me know your artist preference and then we can iron out the character story. Once the concept is complete, I will commission the artist of your choice to begin work on your custom piece. Then I will create the rest of the character, decide where it fits in the book, adjust events/encounters, and more layout/story adjustments as needed. When the final art piece is done, I'll email you a digital copy if you want. I will then order quality prints for your order. Once the entire order is complete, your custom print(s) are included with your order delivery. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Check the UPDATES for an image example from each artist.
