I expected Solo Star Crossed to feel like an “almost as good” version of regular SC. Playtesting revealed it to be a different experience entirely. Somehow, it feels… luxurious. You play the Follow, and develop a Lead that is basically whoever you think it would be interesting to be entangled with. I soon learned that, wow, I really like helping players indulge themselves.

The Solo version is a creative exercise solely for your own pleasure and satisfaction, and I ended up really emphasizing this in the final text. Play as if you’re writing a first draft. Play as though no one needs to read it (much less understand or enjoy it) but you. Fill it with the things you like, and the things you’re interested in. The result is pure self-indulgence, a story you can sink into like a warm bath.
