THE DEVELOPMENTAL EDIT

When the crowdfund has finished and all pledges have been processed, publisher Oliver Brackenbury will reach out to you about your story. On average all pledges are processed two weeks after the crowdfund ends. 

  • Please have a short story no longer than 6,000 words ready in a .doc or .docx file.

  • You are welcome include with your story a short paragraph describing any specific concerns you'd like Oliver to address.

  • Oliver will read your story, then provide a one page Word file describing his initial reaction upon reading, what worked for him & what didn't, and suggestions for your next draft.

  • Oliver will also provide direct comments on the manuscript and suggested edits via track changes.

  • Once you've had a chance to digest Oliver's notes, you will be entitled to up to 60 min of follow-up via phone or video call, or instant messaging if you prefer.

  • The timeline for receiving your critique is not precise and, being a publisher, Oliver's schedule is pretty full. However, if for any reason there is a significant delay, you will be updated on the situation.

While a dev edit is never a guarantee of publication, it is a comprehensive evaluation of a story, ideal for an early completed draft. A developmental edit seeks the strengths in the work to bring them forward, assessing structure, diction, character, plot, and other core elements.

You will receive the book in ePub, mobi, and PDF formats.

If you'd also like a softcover copy with the digital formats, please add $10 to your pledge.
If you'd also like a hardcover copy with the digital formats, please add $20 to your pledge.
If you'd like to receive the book in all physical & digital formats, please add $38 to your pledge.
