Project Update: It's the Final Countdown!
Hi everyone,
Little-known co-writer Natalie Cooper here. Thank you so much to everyone who has backed the project so far and who's shared it, reached out about it, or otherwise been heroically supportive.
Years ago, there was a worldwide pandemic (you may have missed it) and one of my best friends in the world messaged me from a different coast with their idea for a graphic novel about a superhero and a supervillain trapped in a wedding rom com. They knew my deepest, darkest secret (that my favourite movie of all time is The Wedding Singer) and asked if I would write it with them. And thus, Bouquets and Death Rays was born.
As we move into the final week of this BackerKit, I am overwhelmed with gratitude and filled with excitement for where this book will go next. When we first noodled around with the idea, I was pretty sure no one would get what we were going for or appreciate our brand of weird- finding that there's a similarly-minded community of passionate weirdos is the icing on the cake.
On top of my thanks to you, I obviously have to thank my partner-in-crime, Jordaan, for always having the best ideas, for talking me out of my bad ones, and reminding me why I love what we do. I'd also like to thank Melissa Capriglione, who is really one of the greatest artists of our time, and has done such incredible work on this that sometimes Jordaan and I message each other just to say "oh my God, how is she so good?"
So, the final week is upon us. We are still working towards our stretch goal of an extra story for the book (I'm thinking prequel!). If we blast past that, we have some other stretch goals in mind, but for now I'd like to ask you- what sorts of updates would you like from us once the campaign is over? Beyond the usual "the book is lettered" or "the printed copies are cool", would you like to discuss our favourite rom coms? Would you like behind-the-scenes peeks of art and dialogue in process? Would you like a segment about the weirdest discussions Jordaan and I have had around the book, including whether or not Pikachu could be mentioned?
Thanks again, and have a great rest of your day,
Natalie
