Overtakes you, in the deepest hollow

Of the enchanted forest, one foot 

Hovering 

Above the white-speckled ring

Of scarlet amanita.

 

Like jumping from the parapets when

You know you shouldn’t,

Drinking the poisoned goblet, biting

The red side of the apple.

 

All that madness lurking

In the corners, goblin-eyed.

Waiting.

 

The desperate wail of pipes

And crying fiddle say:

Go ahead, follow. Embrace it.

 

You knew you were fey

All along.
