In a not-too-distant future, the human elite--Booshies--buy and sell shifters, filling their mansions with as many pretty pets as they can afford. Most view the creatures as property, not beings with hopes, dreams and lives of their own. And in the harsh reality around them, filled with constant ashy skies and acid rain, some shifters accept their captivity as an illusion of protection. Those not held prisoner by the rich are forced to do their bidding in other ways. A lucrative black market trade runs like a malevolent current through society.

But there is still hope for a better world.

The Magical Creature Underground is a safe haven for any shifter seeking freedom. No matter one's origin, all are welcome. If enough stand up against injustice, maybe the oppressed can become truly free.

Molly and I both have very strong senses of social justice. It was important to us that both this world and the story reflected those beliefs. Looking back at where we were five years ago when we wrote and published the Captivity trilogy, it's heartbreaking to see how much our own world has divided itself. Yet the ever-present desire to do good and make things better for everyone remains. This desire to do good and create a better world for themselves and future generations is reflected in our motley band of freedom fighters.

We originally came into this world and story intending to write a simple second-chance romance for Aiden and Lorelei. These two were torn apart by circumstance. We'd envisioned a rediscovery of their love for one another. Spoiler Alert: those plans lasted exactly four chapters until two very pushy secondary characters (here's looking at you Xander and Douglas) came on scene and insisted they were our hero and heroine's true soul mates. And who were we to argue? This was their story, after all. We were just transcribing it. 

We are proud of the diversity explored in this series: from race and ethnicity to sexuality.  We also had fun playing with how different shifters (based on the elements) were and weren't compatible. We came to adore all of our core characters. But this is a brutal world so prepare yourself. Not everyone gets a happy ending.

All Aiden has ever known is the inside of a cage. As a phoenix, he is blessed with unlimited rebirths. But they come at a cost. Every person he was before is erased. He emerges from The Burning with no memories of the man he was before. But, the moment he gets the chance, he breaks free. By sheer luck, he stumbles into the net of a feisty doxy called Mels who offers him safety with the Magical Creature Underground.

But Aiden isn't used to his human form and soon enough, he learns that the woman who'd held him captive has poisoned him. Without treatment, he will die and lose this version of himself forever.

Aiden's journey not only takes him on a path of self-discovery of this version of his being but on an unexpected exploration of what it means to love and be loved. Fully embraced by the Magical Creature Underground, their fight ignites a blaze of righteousness within him that will propel him into the heart of danger, even if it means risking his own life.

Raised to be a hunter since childhood, Lorelei is a masterful tracker. Using her siren song to chase down missing and escaped shifters with her Siren sisters is a good way to make a living, even if she despises her existence. So when she finds love with a phoenix named Keagan, she jumps at the chance to live her own life for once.

Until he's ripped away from her and she's forced back into her life of being the tool by which the elite exert control over shifters. This loss of love defines her and fuels her journey forward, hoping she can one day reunite with the man she lost.

But what she finds at the end of her search is a man changed by his experiences, burned away by his very nature. And just as she thinks there might be a chance they could rekindle what they had, a new love enters her life. Lorelei never intends to join the Magical Creature Underground, but the longer she spends in their company, the more she recognizes her role in bringing about a new era for all shifters.

So, what happens once the campaign wraps up? Well, a few things.

While we would love to get your goodies to you before the holiday season, realistically printing and receiving the physical books from overseas and then shipping them out to you will take a bit of time. So, bearing that in mind, here's our estimates on when you can expect items:

A note for international backers: I will be using Pirate Ship's Simple Export rates where applicable (based on package weight up to 4 pounds) to give you the best rates I can and to ensure you receive personally signed print books.

VAT/International Taxes: Import taxes and VAT are not collected by me! Please find out if your country imposes taxes or VAT fees on books, as many countries do it differently. It's beyond my capability to calculate the various rates and adjust the pricing. If you haven't paid them in the past for similar purchases, your country may not. However, if your country does require additional taxes, you'll have to pay the courier to receive the product. This money goes to your country, not me. If a package is returned because you don't want to pay the taxes and for a second delivery attempt, I can't offer refunds for your items or the initial delivery fees (since they were applied to the first attempted delivery) and the package will not be resent. Thanks for understanding!

Below are estimated international shipping rates. Final rates charged will be based on final package weight.

As a backer you are responsible for completing your survey and paying shipping fees within a timely manner, to receive your rewards. As creators we are only able to communicate with backers through project updates and reminder emails (email correspondence will be sent to the email on file for your pledge). As a backer it is your responsibility to check and read project updates, and to check for survey emails. If you fail to stay updated and do not complete your survey, you could forfeit your rewards. (Read more about reward forfeiture below)

Once the project shipping is completed backers will be notified via a campaign update. This campaign update will have a final survey completion date. If your survey is not completed by this date, and your shipping costs not paid, you will forfeit your pledge payment and rewards. I will not fulfill forfeited rewards and pledge levels after the completion date.

I make every attempt to get your package from my home to yours. However, sometimes packages are lost in the mail. I will notify backers with an update when the project is near completion and rewards shipped. If you have not received your package by the completion of the shipping process, you will have an extended period of 1 month to contact me about a missing package. If you do not contact me within that extended period of time about a lost or never received package, you will forfeit your rewards and I will not provide a refund or re-ship your rewards.

If your pins/books arrive damaged you will need to contact me with images within the same 1 month timeline as above. I will do everything in my power to make it right. However, I am not responsible for damaged pins due to wear or use. And I will not replace pins after this one month time has passed.

Please note that a large part of the pin-making process is still done by hand, and as such some pins might have minor scuffs or 'imperfections', or colors may vary by a degree (colors are still hand mixed pigment!). Consider these "little touches of love" by human hands. For there is beauty in each unique scuff. However, your pin should not be falling apart when you receive it! 

Hi, I'm Sarah! I'm a lover of urban fantasy, TV and Earl Grey tea.  I grew up on fantasy books like the So You Want to Be a Wizard series and A Wrinkle in Time. As I grew older, I fell in love with the world building and beautifully constructed tales of Jim Butcher and Seanan McGuire. As someone who is visually impaired, visualizing people and places can sometimes be a challenge. But, I strive to follow in these great authors' footsteps and I hope that this series proves to be a work worthy of their inspiration and influence.

Over the last decade or so I've been lucky enough to be able to add some great accolades to my name (Esq., USA Today Bestselling author, wife and mom). I've loved all of it, even when I've been run ragged chasing after a rambunctious preschooler.  And in all that time, I still find joy (if a bit masked by aggravation at times) in my day job as an investigator with the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination. I've yet to find a way to work the craziness of the stories I hear into a work of fiction. Maybe one day.

Hi, I'm Molly!  I dabble in so many genres including historical, YA, romance, paranormal and Urban Fantasy. My first love (aka what I also like to read) is YA fiction.  I also am a sucker for "shipping" characters and have never met a love triangle I don't like. 

Over the last several years, I've co-authored over a dozen projects.  Most of my solo projects are currently out of print but I have a new YA literary fiction novel that came out in April 2023. The novel (NON-VERBAL) is semi-autobiographical. It deals with the struggles of a Non-Verbal Autistic Teenager and is inspired by my own experiences with my oldest daughter.
