Despite being unwanted by her mother and most of the Algornian society on Abstract City of Algorna, Sitari, a half human, half Algornian 5-year-old child, asks the strangest of questions. What makes a god?

Sitari’s curiosity always puts her mother on edge, especially with the questions about gods. Her mother must know something about them, but refuses to tell her. She’s always reminding her about that her little taboo of a child shouldn’t wonder such crazy ideas. Algornian’s never question, they accept.

But acceptance and differences are two completely different things to the Algornians. You're an Algornian or one of those humans. Either loved or you’re hated, but never anything in between.

Sitari is this in between. Having a hand in both worlds, although never has she seen the outside world beyond her mother’s door, nor has she seen a human. That changes one night as she witnesses one waltzing through a crowd that casts disapproving glances at him. He spots her peering through the cracked door.

When beckoned by this human to leave the room, she hesitates. Leaving the room could be… disastrous with so many Algornian’s outside. Her mother would be mad. The human persists, approaching the door.

He’s curious about her half human nature, but she just wants to know about gods. Claiming ignorance to the awareness of gods, he sports a mysterious symbol on his trench coat. With the widest smile and sharpest of teeth, Sitari has never seen a smiley quite like this one.

Speaking to it from over his shoulder, he makes it seem like a real being behind him. A smiley on the back of his trench coat. Is that all it is? Sitari thought that until the human turns to leave. Then she too hears the voice that calls to him.

Now, it asks her to follow the mysterious human into the outside world. She’s afraid. What will the Algornian’s think of her disgusting halfling form? Will the Algornians shun her like they do to the few humans of Abstract City, or will they welcome her? Can she trust the voice that promises enjoyment and a bright future beyond her mother’s door?
