A story game about the best girls living their best lives
From Scryptid Games comes a zany new TTRPG set in the Psychic Trash Detectives universe: Brigitte Winter's Golden Good Girls.
Inspired by the sitcom Golden Girls, Golden Good Girls is a stand-alone TTRPG about a tight-knit group of “un-adoptable” senior shelter animals living their best lives together at the local shelter, Shady Pines!
Collaborate with your friends to build the sitcom world of Shady Pines and the paw-inspiring characters who live there. Step into a flashback episode where you reminisce about the times you and your fellow fuzzballs shared, and resolve challenges with stupid human tricks like making goofy faces and eating crackers without your hands.
You’ll even earn real treats for successful tricks! Each player brings a stash of shareable treats to the table that will serve as narrative lures to drive the story forward, resolve challenges, and inspire immersive play.
Like Psychic Trash Detectives, Golden Good Girls is a replayable, single-session, shared-GM game for 3-5 players that explores themes of chosen family and finding value in the communities the rest of the world has discarded. But while Psychic Trash Detectives uses pulp mystery tropes as the inspiration for storytelling, Golden Good Girls pulls from the treasure trove of nostalgic sitcom tropes and touchstones.
So gather your favorite people and your favorite treats, and explore the angst and the antics of day-to-day life at Shady Pines!
Exclusive treats for early backers
We have some special rewards planned for the campaign, including an exclusive bonus reward for early backers!
Everyone who backs Golden Good Girls within the first 48 hours of the campaign at a tier where you receive a physical reward will win a limited edition sticker featuring Chickpea, a real Golden Good Girl who lives in Baltimore, Maryland.
Sign up to be notified when the campaign launches so you don’t miss out on this special reward—and to learn more about Chickpea's personality and life in the weeks leading up to our launch 🐶
Who will you be?
When you make characters in Golden Good Girls, you'll select from four playbooks, each inspired by a Golden Girls character!
Will you be the arrogant, sarcastic Dorothy?
Or the vain, charming Blanche?
Or maybe you’re more of a naive, quirky Rose?
Or a tough, wise-cracking Sophia?
Each playbook includes several unique narrative lures, character behaviors that players can enact to earn treats during gameplay. Not all playbooks need to be represented in a game, and more than one player can select the same playbook.
Yes, you can be a community of Blanches. You’re welcome.
Expanding the Psychic Trash Detectives Universe
Golden Good Girls is a stand-alone game–which means you don’t need any other source material to play it–but the characters live in the same universe as the characters in Scryptid Games’s critically-acclaimed 2023 release, Psychic Trash Detectives.
“The folks at Scryptid Games are thoughtful and clever, and the ode to synanthropes that they've created in Psychic Trash Detectives is beautiful and profoundly odd." — Avery Alder, designer of Monsterhearts 2, A Quiet Year, and Dream Askew
“Psychic Trash Detectives is tactile and dynamic… it’s fun, punk, and important in ways that break the mold.” — Tonee Mae Moll, author of Out of Step: A Memoir and You Cannot Save Here
“An interactive journey that is joyous, queer, and rich with the languages of story and play.” — Lois Mei-en Kwa, author of Yearling and The Bees Make Money in the Lion
Psychic Trash Detectives is a CRIT Awards Finalist for Best Indie TTRPG and Best Cover Art. Brigitte Winter, the Ennie-nominated designer of both Psychic Trash Detectives and Golden Good Girls, was a 2023 Dicebreaker Tabletop Awards FInalist for a Designer of the Year. And Scryptid Games is thrilled to collaborate again with Psychic Trash Detectives illustrator Ava Eerie to bring new characters to life in Golden Good Girls!
While the characters in Psychic Trash Detectives are members of the trash animal community, the Golden Good Girls are senior members of the cozy animal community in the Psychic Trash Detectives universe. All of their hijinks take place within the confines of an animal shelter. They may be dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, parrots—any animal that could conceivably live a life as a human pet.
Unique rewards and stretch goals
Scryptid Games is known for offering unique, quirky rewards for our backers. During this campaign, we will be featuring some special backer tiers where you can receive bespoke, hand-created rewards.
One of these rewards will be a special project by Brigitte Winter to rescue classic clutches from area vintage shops in Baltimore, MD. Brigitte will be filling these stylish accessories with classic candy (hello, Werther's Original🍬) and sending them to each backer who supports us at this tier.
Rescued clutches will be LIMITED, so if you want one of these, you've gotta back early! But, if you're just here for the zany TTRPG gameplay, the focus for this campaign will be on getting you a high quality, colorful paperback TTRPG book that is the perfect companion to Psychic Trash Detectives:
This book will include:
Complete guidebook taking you through a one-shot session of Golden Girls from start to finish
A set of unique character playbooks inspired by the Golden Girls
Rules for establishing sitcom-style worldbuilding, complete with your game's unique set and cast
Gameplay featuring stupid human tricks where you can earn real treats from your friends
Safety tools and frameworks that support joyful, consent-based storytelling while roleplaying as zany old animals
Gorgeous illustrations of senior animals inspired by real pets by Ava Eerie!
Leading up to our campaign launch, we will be building conversation around rescuing shelter animals, what it takes to design a Psychic Trash Detectives game, and all things Golden Girls. We will also be giving you exclusive sneak peeks of exclusive campaign rewards! Join us:
