An LGBTQIA+ comic book about witches becoming embroiled in a secret war on their kind.
Candar, a large continent in a Realm known as Psevon. In recent years, the Emperor Supreme has declared the open-faith of Sha’aoh the official religion of the Land, a decision followed by an era of peace without militaristic coercion. Across the nation, though the wilds can be dangerous, this peace has been enjoyed by all. However, a sudden entanglement with Zemya across the Pierden Sea brings war, and with it, tension. This tension heightens a social illness that had plagued Candar for decades before the kindly faith of Sha’aoh: witches.

Once true betrayers of sanctity for life and arcane, witches have since become fearmongered propaganda, deemed such for little more than stepping out of line with the Ward. Umbra and Nero are two such perpetrators, and this is the beginning of their story.
This comic is the first of 10, and will be ~25 pages. It's all but finished, and the other comics are in the storyboarding stage, which means your support is going towards a project that's already in full swing, not a pipe dream.
I've been working on this world for years, and finally decided that a comic book series would be the best medium for it. There are also numerous short stories in the works, and a concept album based on the characters and concepts in this 10-comic arc! Here's an example of a standard page in the comic! Everything is still being finalized (borders, fonts, page numbering, etc.), but this should give you and idea of the style!
A huge component of this project and world is verisimilitude. I wanted everything to feel real, and believable. To that end, I'm actively developing a language for the world, Shosi, which you'll encounter in the comic. It's natural for these characters to use phrases and words that don't translate fully to other languages. They're used seamlessly in their speech, but if I've done my job right, the context clues should be plenty to infer the gist. It's been very fun to work on this, and it will only get deeper and more complex as the project advances. In line with this language is a script which will inevitably align with it, but currently operates as a script for the english of the comic. But not in the way you might think. No spoilers on that.
There will be LGBTQIA+ representation prevalent through the whole comic series, as well as some mature themes. There will be NO graphic depictions of sexual acts, but there will definitely be some innuendo when (in)appropriate, especially given Nero's current skillset.
