A City of Light and Shadows
Welcome to this center of the Magical Renaissance with its splendid palaces, intricate conspiracies and dark secrets. In this era of enlightenment and discovery, in a time when magic fills the world, Venice shines bright by day, but when the night comes, shadows fill the streets and canals. And whilst mortals fight for supremacy in the government, an ancient evil awakens in the dark twin of the metropolis. No one is safe in this place where the stones come to life and nightmares crawl out of the lagoon.
Serenissima Obscura is a 300-page book that is one half setting guide for fantasy gaming in a dark version of renaissance Venice and the other half a modular adventure filled with conspiracies and terror.
▶︎ The extensive setting guide details life in this most mysterious of all cities and offers a ton of information about the historical and mystical background of the Magical Renaissance in 1507.
▶︎ 27 gripping adventure modules are set in a dark version of Venice and focus on investigation and horror. Combine them to create a massive campaign, or use them independently for shorter sessions!
▶︎ Large parts of the book are system-agnostic, and may be used with your favourite system. Serenissima Obscura includes stats and rules for 5e as well as for Narrative, Freeform and Rules-Light Systems. We are furthermore excited about the extra booklet "Ars Magica Guide for the Magical Renaissance" that will be available as an Add-On.
▶︎ Large-scale Street-Maps, Battle-Maps, the "The Magical Renaissance Player’s Guide for 5e" and more will enrich your roleplaying experience.
▶︎ Coming in PDF and offset print, Serenissima Obscura is lavishly illustrated and carefully laid out detailing locations, monsters, NPCs, and scenes.

Your Choice: Horror or Mystery or Both!
▶︎ Are you looking for absolute freedom to play, or do you need a little more guidance? Our setting guide and adventure modules allow for a multitude of ways that your game can unfold.
▶︎ Create your own adventures inspired by the setting guide, the many personages and the adventure hooks that we have included in it!
▶︎ We present 27 adventure modules. These sections of 2-8 pages refer to a specific event or situation, a protagonist, a location, a monster, a concept, or an entire sub-plot. Use them independently or alongside one of the bigger story arches in Serenissima Obscura.
▶︎ Depending on your preferences, you can either focus on investigation in brightside Venice or explore the shadowside world. You may even choose a dungeon-like play-style. Or you combine everything into one long campaign. You are the master of your game!

Amazing Maps
▶︎ Serenissima Obscura includes 2 large street maps of Venice and its shadow, as well as 6 detail maps for the sestieri. All the city quarters are fleshed out with specific descriptions, additional story hooks, NPCs and locations.
▶︎ The street-maps are in the book, but you can also buy large-scale digital or print versions to be used by your players. These versions are cleaned of "secret" locations so that you don’t give away all the information at a glance!
▶︎ We also offer 4 large scale battle-maps specifically designed for our setting as an add-on. Believe us: they are absolutely worth it!
Zooming in: Setlets and Campaign Frames
▶︎ Follow the classical approach of a group of adventurers from different ways of life, or try out another game style:
▶︎ We present more than a dozen of campaign frames and setlets to organise the group in sub-settings that are either historically accurate or based on our mystical background.
▶︎ Among them are: the Convent, the Trouser Club, the Arsenalotti, Henchmen of the Ten, Servants of the Stone, Signori de la Notte and Diplomats & Dungeons. We are going to add a covenant as one of the setlets in the "Ars Magica Guide for Serenissima Obscura".
▶︎ All campaign frames come with story hooks and a set of protagonists, that you can either use as NPCs or inspiration for player characters. Even more adventure options!

Monsters & Villains Everywhere
▶︎ Both the setting guide and the adventure modules are filled with fascinating monsters and original villains – all of which can be confronted in the course of the campaign or used independently.
▶︎ All opponents come equipped with full stats blocks for 5e and Narrative, Freeform and Rules-Light Systems. Rules for Ars Magica will be available in the "Ars Magica Guide for Serenissima Obscura".

New Classes and Species for 5e
▶︎ Discover the Children of the Lagoon, the Merchant, the Gonne Slinger and other character creation options tailored to the historical and mystical setting. All come with new powers and full background information.
▶︎ For super convenient use, we will add the The Magical Renaissance Player's Guide that also includes classes and species from "The Straight Way Lost". The philosopher, artist and courtier, the nephilim and half dwarves wait for you!
▶︎ In the Ars Magica Guide for Serenissima Obscura we are going to elaborate on how to use the idea of different species in the Mythic Europe setting and how to convert the powers of our new classes into Ars Magica terms.
