What's Happening?

We're making a totally rad documentary film, but we need your help! As a small indie filmmaking team, our goal is to crowdfund the film. We really hope you'll join us on this journey and make 80s Babies a reality!

What's the film about?

"80s Babies" takes audiences on a vibrant journey into the resurgence of 1980s culture among today's youth. Despite being born decades later, Gen Z influencers and everyday young people are immersing themselves in the vibrant fashion, infectious music, and distinctive lifestyle of the 80s. This cultural revival has sparked a phenomenon that not only captivates but also unites different age groups. Through intimate personal stories, expert insights, and historical context, the film delves deep into why the 80s continue to exert such a profound influence on contemporary society.

MEET THE 80s BABIES:

Violet Sky aka @Glitterwave80s on Instagram and TikTok. Residing in NYC, Violet, and many others in the nearby vicinity are putting in the work to revive the 1980s. However, this particular 80s Baby is really going the extra mile with her efforts in the matter. Not only has she completely adopted an authentic 80s fashion sense, but Violet has put countless hours into archiving and resurfacing lost media from the time. And if that isn't enough, this young lady is one of the few people born outside of the 1980s who can say they make authentic 80s music.

Lee Rock Starski aka @leerock_starski on Instagram and TikTok. Like so many of the great Hip Hop acts of the past, Lee hails from NYC and spends many a night DJing to crowds hungry for that vintage 80s sound. Just one look at this young man and you may find it hard to believe that his car isn't a time machine built by Doc Brown. Lee Rock Starski looks as fresh as Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, or any other member of the Juice Crew, for that matter.  But we've only begun to *scratch* the surface of this DJ's story.

Jordan aka @CantBuyMe80s_ on Instagram and TikTok. Bearing a striking resemblance to Scream Queen Heather Langenkamp of A Nightmare on Elm Street fame, Jordan just may be the 80s Baby of your dreams! Growing up in Maryland, her dreams have been colored by the bright lights of Hollywood rather than by a dirty old red and green sweater. Jordan is currently working as an actress for the 80s themed television show Small Town Outsiders and is always on the lookout for roles that can utilize her bona fide 80s aesthetic. With all that screen time, you may already know Jordan, but she's got plenty more story to tell.

Theron aka @Theron80s on Instagram and TikTok. Growing up a Smalltown Boy in rural Virginia, Theron had a feeling he was different from his peers. Later in life, he found an identity in the culture and fashion of the 1980s--a decade he was very far removed from at a mere 25 years of age. Now, Theron looks as if he just stepped out of a Def Leppard music video and is ready to rock, no matter how his neighbors feel about his fashion sense. It ain't easy bringing back the 80s, especially when you can't find others like you, but Theron persists with passion. Eh-the-thea-the-thea-the-thee That's Not All Folks! Theron's got more story to tell!

Madi Danger aka @madi_danger on Instagram and TikTok. Bela Lugosi may be dead; the bats may have left the bell tower; but Madi Danger keeps the 80s Goth and Metal lifestyle alive...er...undead to this day! Whether cruising the streets in her hearse or in her '87 Trans Am, she brings her aesthetic with her wherever she goes. This Corrosion of conformity might shock some of her small-town neighbors, but she is no sister of mercy to the haters! Like her vampire idols, Madi Danger has tales that are sure to entertain!

Also featured in the film:

Grace aka @Gracemarian on Instagram. Unlike the other 80s Babies featured in the film, Grace actually grew up in the decade. As a child, she always dreamed of dressing and living as she does nowadays. However, her family thought it frivolous to spend money on trending fashions in those days. Now, as an adult, Grace leads the life she always dreamed and is making friends with 80s Babies that are a bit younger than herself. Her story helps to answer the question of whether or not living the 80s lifestyle is simply a phase.

Billy aka elkfoot aka @obscure80sradio on Instagram. Born in 1982, Billy is another of our subjects who spent his childhood in the 80s. From then on, his nostalgia for the decade has shaped his identity. In art school, Billy focused all of his projects on some sort of classic reference from 1980s pop culture. During the pandemic, he decided to start an Instagram account which showcased his extensive 80s vinyl collection and this is when he began encountering Gen Z 80s influencers. This film is Billy's brainchild and will be directed by him, while also following his journey to explore the 80s Babies phenomenon.

David Bravo aka @realdavidbravo aka @shytalk80s on Instagram. As someone who was both an adult through the 80s and also directly contributed to the pop culture output of the decade, we are very interested to hear David's thoughts on the 80s Babies community. He was keyboardist for the 80s pop rock outfit Shy Talk and, thanks to the help of one of our featured Babies, the band has resurfaced for a fresh, young audience. Today, David is back in the studio, working on some unique projects that we're excited to discuss!

Lori Tucker aka @tucker_lori on Instagram. Spending most of her time in the 80s striking a pose for cameras, Lori certainly knows a thing or two about the allure of the decade. Perhaps you recognize her from her roles in some popular music videos of the time, including Van Halen's "Hot for Teacher" or perhaps you had magazine clippings of our resident 80s babe hanging from your wall. We just know that we're excited to hear from a woman who helped bring about the video vixen era and who is making friends with members of the 80s revivalist community today. The 80s will never die, and we think Lori may know why!

EXCLUSIVE MUSIC from Michael Angelaux aka michael.angelaux on IG and michael.angelaux.80s on TikTok!! Like the Renaissance artist or the 80s turtle hero, it's pronounced Michael "ANGELO." While his music is produced today, you'd never know it wasn't actually pumped from the synthesizer-soaked speakers of the 80s. Michael has a knack for capturing an authentic sound and we are thrilled that he will be writing a song specifically for our soundtrack! Get amped to hear it!!

MUSIC from Ronnie Stone aka @ronniestone.coffin on Instagram. Don't let the leather, spikes, and chains mislead you; this NYC duo creates some of the most infectious electro/synth pop tunes you'll hear today. Ronnie Stone has a sound that is both unique and reminiscent of our favorite decade. They're the perfect fit for our film and we are so excited to feature them on our soundtrack. We can't wait for you to hear their stuff!

Musicians, Fashion/Pop Culture Historians, Social Psychologists, and more! While the specifics here are still TBD, it is our intention to interview many people for insights on this unique cultural revival. The larger the total funding/budget we achieve with this campaign, the more exciting and interesting we can make this film!

Where does your donation go?

Any and all funding received from this campaign will go directly into the production of our film. This includes, but is not limited to film/production crew compensation, travel/lodging, equipment rentals, music licensing, festival entrance fees, and the rewards that will be offered to our backers!

Why sign up now if the campaign is not yet live?

Good question! The reality is that it will be far easier for us to successfully keep interested parties in the loop if we establish a mailing list ahead of our campaign launch. The number of emails we get is crucial to our success--the larger our mailing list, the more likely this film will get made.

So, from the bottom of our hearts, we ask that you share this teaser page with any and all friends/family you can think of and ask them to sign up alongside yourself. We really want this film to see the light of day!

We know your love of the 80s directed you to our page, so signing up now is the best way to follow along for updates on a highly unique film about the decade.

What rewards will I receive for donating?

Another good question! Unfortunately, this is still in the planning phase and specifics are TBD. What we can tell you is we'll have some very cool merch; tickets to the premiere screening; and chances to have your name, social handle, and/or picture in the film. There may even be a reward for you to have a brief cameo in the film! Stay tuned for updates on what kinds of rewards you can expect for your level of donation. We intend to have the full list of rewards and pledge levels ready prior to our campaign launch later this year!
