Now that you’ve identified key team members, you can start creating a teaser page to collect emails.
You can’t rely on any crowdfunding platform to deliver backers to you organically. Instead, it’s up to every creator to bring their audience to the campaign. The best way to do this is by growing an email list of active and engaged supporters. But before you can start collecting email addresses, you’ll need to create a teaser page.
A teaser page — also called a landing page — is a standalone web page used to achieve a specific marketing goal (a website, on the other hand, is more of a hub for your brand). You will be directing people to this page throughout your campaign to promote your project and get email sign-ups. To use a teaser page, you’ll first need to select an email service provider (ESP). Popular ESPs include Mailchimp, Sendinblue, and Constant Contact. All of the email addresses you’ll eventually collect will be stored with your ESP, and you’ll be able to send out emails to that list of people.
Once you’ve done this, you can move onto building your teaser page. Your ESP may have a teaser page feature, or you can try a platform like Instapage, Leadpages, or Unbounce to design the page. The most effective teaser pages typically have the following features:
- A headline: This can be the name of your game.
- Supporting copy: A brief description of your game and your launch date, if you have one.
- Eye-catching design elements: This could be in the form of an interesting logo font, an illustrated mock-up of your game, or other graphic design elements.
- A call-to-action (CTA): This is what you want visitors to do. It’ll probably be something like, “sign up for my email list to get updates on my game.” You want to let people know what to expect from your emails.
- An email opt-in: This is the form field where people submit their email addresses and agree to receive your emails.
Once you have your teaser page, put the link anywhere potential backers may see it, like the bio section of your social profiles, in your email signature, and in conversations on online forums (that allow link sharing). Your teaser page is one of your most important marketing tools, so put some time into thinking about how you can use it to make a strong impression and reflect your brand.
An email marketing tool used to harness the power of your existing audience, whether it be past backers from a crowdfunding campaign and/or your email list. Get backers to pledge to your project early and get crucial insights into conversions. Once you have collected a few hundred emails, you can import them into BackerKit Launch and validate the quality of your list for free.
